god damn, they had some awesome players.. too bad that league got fucked by the NFL....

reggie white, jim kelly, bobby hebert (ya, i said bobby hebert), anthony carter, steve young, hershel walker.... shit man, real good players in that league... far better than what the xfl showed us.

yup but there's room for only one league. Look at the CFL, it's shit. We would be better with no league rather than some AA level players....

but it's a different game... its canadian rules football.... uh, ya...;)

plus, i think it is more of a high speed passing game instead of smash mouth football... its prissy... maybe moss could go there.

Eric Dickerson, one of the best ever

I agree there is only room for one league. At the beginning the XFL wasn't that bad but the starters were players who were maybe just good enough to make an NFL squad or at least kinda close, but the back-up players were a joke. And once a lot of the starters were injured due to the "extreme" style of football they played, we saw some really bad football being played. It's too bad because I'd love to have year round football

Dickerson never played for the USFL did he? I thought he went straight to the Rams.

Now the other member of SMU's Pony Express, Craig James, played for the Wash DC Franchise, whose name I can't recall right now. Some others who went on to do good in the NFL were Doug Flutie & Herschel (NJ Generals), Jim Kelly (Houston Gamblers), Steve Young (LA Express), and Reggie Collier (Birmingham Stallions).

I was a USFL junkie.

ooops! my bad. he was offered huge bucks by the LA Express but said no.

did i read somewhere that steve young was a rb/fb in the usfl???

smart decision on his part, he fared much better in the NFL than his college backfield mate. They both ended up being sports announcers too.

hahahaha, dickerson was AWFUL!!!!! (as an announcer)...

when he talked you could just hear the 3rd grade education come through....

MB are you insinuating that he didn't attend SMU on an academic scholarship?

Seriously, I thought he was smart enuff, just not much charisma.

Going back to the topic of the thread, the USFL probably would have done okay if they hadn't moved from summer ball to fall ball.

TO HELL WITH THE USFL!

It cost Herschel Walker a trip to the Hall of Fame. He would have, by far, the most all purpose yards if he had went straight into the NFL. The USFL cost him three years, and he is still number 6 in the NFL for all purpose yards. :kaioken:

I disagree. His lack of an appearance in the Super Bowl is what will hurt his chances. Spending time in the USFL sure didn't hurt Jim Kelly who made it on his first time eligible.
