The true difference between a JOB and a CAREER?

I see a lot of people say they have a career when all they have is a job, and some people say they have a job when they are in a career. I dont think that if you wear a tie to work that it automatically qualifies as a "career" or just because you work in blue collar doesnt mean it isnt a "career". Is there a black and white difference between a job and a career? Or is it just the amount of time spent at a certain job that turns it into a career?

To me:

Job- Something you do for a short period of time.

Career- Something you [should] like and do for the rest of your working days.

career- something you love doing and will do for the rest of your days

I would say that you have a career if you are a qualified member of a profession that has some type of standard for excellence, and is self-policing.

Also, if you have some benchmark for progression within that field.

I have a JOB that pays the bills. I don't give a rats ass about stock holders, and yes I am one.

I define it as follows:

A job: It pays the bills and is something you do not plan on doing the rest of your life.

A career: Something that also pays the bills...BUT.... YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO AND PLAN ON DOING IT THE REST OF YOUR LIFE....DO NOT MIND GOING INTO WORK AND HAVE A SMILE ON YOUR FACE EACH DAY!

Well, I think many people are in career fields that they do not like, believe it or not.

I've known several peeps who have changed career's after SEVERAL year's of hating what they do for a living!

Not easy, but life is tooooo damn short!

I love my career VB, but just answering the thread, I don't think you have to love what you're doing for it to be a career by definition.

Job: usually short period, good money but you never know when you will get fired.

Career: something you do for the rest of your life (cause most likely you've studied in that area), money is even better.
