The strongest man ever ?

Who is your choice for the strongest guy there has been?

There have been a lot of very strong strongmen who had WORLD RECORDS in Power Lifting (eg Kazmaier,Kiri,Karlsen,Noren,Wilson,Badenhorst,Bolton). But who do you think is the strongest?

I'll put five names forward for my choices Louis Cyr,Doug Hepburn,Paul Anderson,Riku Kiri,Hugo Girard.

Here's a good thread I found http://www.fortifiediron.net/invision/index.php?showtopic=16739

I know he's not concidered a powerlifter but I think Ronnie Coleman could be after watching his last DVD the Cost of Redemption. He squats over 800lbs a couple of times, leg presses 2,400lbs. He is just all around unbelievably strong but also has the best looking body in BB to go along with it.

I'd have to vote Kaz as my favorite and possibly Paul Anderson as the strongest man ever based on gym lifts and so-called eye witnesses.

If you are talking weightroom I go with Gary Frank and Ed Coan
Strongman Bill Kasmeier
Just all around strong O.D. Wilson.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I would say based on what I've seen it is either Hugo Girard or Riku Kiri. I can remember when Gerrit Badenhorst said that Riku was the strongest man he ever competed against and sometimes was left baffled by how strong Riku could be when he put his mind to it.

But based on what I've heard it's either Hepburn or Anderson with Cyr getting a mention too.

if this question is meant strictly for strongman competitors you may do better posting it in the strongman forum, i'll link it to there now

No this is not soley for Strongman competitors, it is as the title says, Strongest Man Ever, lifters, Strongmen, it doesn't matter. Whose the strongest??

Ronnie could be the strongest man ever if he wanted to...unfortunately, he is a proffesional bodybuildier, so he has to be cut as well as huge.

Those "powerlifter" guys have like 20-30% bodyfat, as opposed to Ronnies less than 7%. They eat everything, all day long, which is where that extra strength comes from. If Ronnie WANTED to, he could be the strongest guy alive, because he has the best genetics out of anyone alive.

You, sir, are an idiot.

Take a breath, get a drink of water, and re-read the above statement. Carry on.

I would love to say Bill Kazmier, as he is my favorite.

I would also like to put out Louis Cyr's name out there, he is one of the most strongest men that lived, all-together.

Paul Anderson did a 6,000lb. back lift. George Olsen has done some pretty crazy shit, other than moving big rocks around.

I am fully convinced that many olympic lifters can take a run at powerlifting records...i mean i have clips of guys at 225 doing 280kg squats ass to the ground with just a belt...unbelievable...

It's really hard to compare though. The new super heavy world record holder..wow! unbelievable...580 pd clean and jerk...

While I would really like to agree 100% - it goes both ways. Shane Hammon - powerlifter (1000#+ squat - youngest at one time, maybe still), now the top Heavyweight on the Olympic Team. Bench would be the shortcoming for Oly Lifters. The snatch would pretty much tear up Power Lifters.

The funny part is back in the day, lifters did both styles in competitions during the same year.

Dude thats not very impresive I used to squatt 525 for reps when I was playing football at only 20 years old with no roids!! I'm talking about parallel to the ground ass hitting a chair!! thats the only way our strength and conditioning coach made us do squatts!!!. Coleman is awesome physique how are you want to call it but no way he is strongest man that dudes pharmacy bill must be like 20 grand a month!!. Common man some common sense!

are you guys forgetting the most powerful oly lifters?

my favorite, Dimas, and the new kid Taner Sagir. and of course, Taranenko, and Raza Zadeh (spelling?)...

Taner Sagir, at 5'7" 170lbs snatched 172.5kg, that's 379.5 lbs, at the age of 19 in Athens.

Taranenko apprently full squats 840# some odd raw with a 2 second pause. that is a disgusting show of strength. edit: ("My best back squat is 380 kg (837 lbs). But this is with a two-second pause at the bottom" - from Sportivny)

.... "but this is with a two-second pause"...
