i had on our local talk show (radio) and the one fuck says that "anyone saying we should scrap the space program is a moron and an idiot"....

well, that made me think... "maybe we shouldnt SCRAP it, but definitely cut back a bit to save money"...

now, honestly, what has going into space really done for us?

how has it helped earth? america? has it been worth the BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of dollars spent? why?

Who knows exactly what it has done for us, they never specify what any research ever did for anythign really. Things just pop up.

But seriously i'd like for the program to hurry up so I can be living on the moon when this world is uninhabitable in 50 years.

I personally think we need to put more money into it...It took us 10years to go to the moon once we set out to do it...Just think what we could accomplish with 100 years of Putting that kind of energy and money into it. Who knows perhaps Colonies in space would be possible, or visiting other Galaxies....We could even find another planet to inhabit.

The possibilities for Mankind have no end insight if we all put some serious focus into Space Exploration

It's inevitable that the human race will have to leave this planet. It's going to become too hot to live on one day as the sun is continually expanding.
America's space program has put up countless satellites that aid in communication and spying on bad people.

The people who oppose the space program tend to be those who know the least about it.

Because of space sciences we now have things like; cordless tools, water proof materials, new alloys, first hand knowledge of electromagnetic radiation that could not be studied from earth because of the atmosphere (x-rays, gamma) etc.. There are thousands of products and concepts out right now that have been inspired or created, directly or indirectly by the space sciences and it will just increase from there.

Plus we are due for a ELE (extinction level event) as its happened over 5 times before in earth’s history, even though that may be sci fi sounding and may not happen in the next hundred years it will eventually and then its game over like the other organisms before us, back to square one. There are a hundred reasons why the space program is important and why advanced sciences should get more funding.

Velcro - to hold checklists in place

cordless power tools

Ultrasound - to detect materials flaws and monitor changes in astros. hearts, etc.

Cat Scanners and MRI - examine materials

Race car cool suits - used to control body temp in EVA and ascent/entry

infrared thermometers

Kidney dialisis machines

fuel pump technology used in the artificail heart

freeze dried/shelf stable food

some kinds of insulation barriers and water purification

check out the link below for lots of stuff. The spinoff magazine is pretty cool too

wow, so we spent billions and billions of dollars for that shit?

sorry, with shit how it is they should do something a bit more IMMEDIATE with the money... fuel sources that are actually usable, feed the hungry... pay me...etc...

Solid fuel cell technology began with Nasa Madbomber and we wouldn't be about half way there to vehicle deployment without the work and effort of the scientist and engineers working there.

Some change needeed....

The space program (as it now stands) is basically a playground for the military. I think they have the rule of what most missions are about. :(

Since humanity's survival might hinge on our ability to make ships that can go on long voyages and perhaps even go faster-than-light so we can reach distant worlds in a realistic time, NASA should be heavily working on developing real space stations (not the toy they want now....one that could support 100-200 people for long periods of time) to work on this goal. They should also be making test rockets with experimental drive technology to see what we can do to get faster speeds in space for deep-space voyages.

I, for one think we need to double the funding.....

What, waste good money on feeding Somalians???? Get the fuckin shuttle to pick their asses up and move them from the fuckin desert ( where they have lived half starved for thousands of years) and drop them in the rain forest.....and give them a sack of cucumber seeds....

The space program has spawned so many things (as noted before in this thread), that it may be the best investment the government has ever made....

I'm tired of spending money on feeding stupid people, and being comdemned for it, and I'm tired of giving people shit, and they just want more....
