ever wonder what would have happened if the south would have won and the Yankees lost? Do not get racist we dont need that on this board, just a question for thought. Where would america be now over 100 years now if the Rebels would have won?? I wonder!!!!!!

Very true. But only in the North, which is why the South could never have won anyway. But if the south imposed it's pre-feudal economic system on the North all the advances of the late 19th century would have passed us by.

The south was attempting to exert it's RIGHT to secede from the union, which was debated during the constitutional conventions. The colonies would have never agreed to the constitution if they were not able to retract from it if they felt it too imposing.

The south was a major driving force, economically, for the north, in the form of tariffs. One of the main reasons for secession was execessive taxation on the south. The concept that the war was for the righteous concept of ending slavery is the warm, fuzzy idea that the victors wish to portray.
