The Scale Has Is Not Budging...

Hello Ladies,

I am 7 weeks out from my first figure competition and it looks like I am at a stand still with the scale :worried: I have lost inches however and I am looking like I lost weight but I havent.

I was talking to some of the girls at the gym who also compete and they said they didnt drop a majority of the weight until 4 weeks out!! Is this true?? I just want to make sure things are running on schedule. Like I said the inches are coming down but not the scale weight..

Fill me in please, and keep me at ease.

This is what you do - take the scale, go over to the window, and I want you to hurl it out...hopefully you are on 3rd-4th floor or higher to get a better smashing effect and (of course) no one down below to get injured :)

P.S. This is Bunny trying to help and I apologize since I cannot speak from experience (yet)...

Best advice I can give is try to focus on the comp, your lifts, posing, quarter turns (?), etc anything BUT the scale. From what I've learned, as you get closer to the comp date (4 weeks out and even the week of the comp), the carb manipulation and water depletion will help that scale number decrease, so don't sweat it NOW. I think you have more important things to worry about and try to re-direct your focus off the scale.

Best of luck :rose:

I keep saying it - my weight didn't change for 3 months but I lost 9% bf. Then the weight came of a 1-2 lbs at a time. When you measure bodyfat, its the proportion of lean muscle mass to unwanted fat. Especially if you are seeing your clothes fit differently, you KNOW you are losing even if the scale doesnt' move.

...totally disagree....you need to know if the diet is working NOW....not waiting until time to deplete and realizing that you HAVENT dropped any fat over the previous 4 weeks.

Get the bf test done and see how it look to the last test......calculate how much fat you are dropping per week and project that forward

I just want to say.. I love you guys!!!

I will keep you guys posted!!! By the way I tried posting pics this weekend but I had some technical difficulties.. ( i am not a platinum member, might that be a problem).. let me see if I can come up with some other way, perhaps through my avatar??? ;)

^^^ I was going to edit my post to include that but I figured someone would point it out... thanks Sass.

I will state for the record I think a BF test is needed...

PM me if you'd like me to post them for you

Good Luck & get the BF done :)

The carb manipulation / water depletion are primarily to get the subQ water out, and its not as critical for figure as it is for BB. But at that point the "fat" should be gone and you are only looking at water weight.

The bodyfat is the only thing that is goign to tell you meaningful detail about fat vs muscle. But also note that weight is sort of a non-issue w/ figure comp because there are no weight classes - its all by height. And you will know how you LOOK by looking.

Again the weight is really irrelevant. Bodyfat gives you some guidance on how lean you are, but even sayign "I'm 12% bf so I am ready for stage" is not accurate because it will further depend on how you carry your weight. I've competed at / below 9% bf for BB and both times have needed to diet down at least 2 more weeks to lose some additional fat I carry in my thighs/ass. So at that point the important detail is how you LOOK. And often you can't gauge that until you've lost enough bodyfat to determine what is your underlying natural physique. So definitely at 7 weeks out if you are still dieting down from your non-competition / I've-never-competed physique, you need to have an established rate of bodyfat burning - but if your body composition is still changing, i.e you aren't coming from an already establsihed "good" figure physique but are doing this all for the first time, reshaping your body for correct presentation, losing bodyfat from "regular life" existence, then the make up of that weight number is goign to be constantly shifting between muscle / fat.

Just so you know, I only dropped like maybe 3 or 4 pounds from Sept to May. Then the last 2 weeks, it started dropping, the last 2 days I dropped 6 pounds (when I water depleted), 3 days after the comp I was up 8 pounds.

Judge by your bodyfat, how your clothes fit, how you look in a picture, are you seeing more and more muscle appear. "Your weight" isn't important as long as your bodyfat is going down, your clothes are starting to be too damn loose, and you're looking tight.

Hope this helps. :)

Sassy,

I know your right!! The Bodyfat is very important!! Its funny how one can look leaner and tighter but the scale doesnt budge!! I guess its a mental thing, when you train so hard and do a shit load a cardio and count every single gram of protein, carbs & fat and dont see that scale budge it tends to get to your head!!... Plus as you can tell by my writing I am totally running on low carbs(In the middle of my carb cycle days)..lol.. I messed up on the title of this post.. lol..

I appreciate your insight and support :qt:

P.S. I want to thank all of you who have replied to my post, your feedback is very important to me!! Thanks again!!

Bunny: I will PM those pics to you by this weekend, if you can post em up when you have time, i would truly appreciate it, thank you for offering!! :qt:
