the right way to do a source check

I'm still new here and in the process of finding someone reliable. Trying to stay on everyones good side, but i have a couple things i would like to look into and don't know the right way to do it. If any mods are willing to take private messages or emais so i can run some things by them and keep myself from gettin riped off, please somehow let me know. Hopefully this post helps all new guys figure out the right way to do this.
