The Psychological Effects of Using Steriods

I always thought that for a substance to be addictive, there had to be a chemical dependency within the user's own body that prevented the user from stopping the use of that substance based on his own mental desire to stop. STEROIDS DON'T MEET THAT QUALIFICATION. Furthermore, prior to the Steroid Control Act of 1990, the FDA actually stated that steroids WERE NOT ADDICTIVE, AND SHOULD NOT BE A SCHEDULED DRUG! So the FDA itself had stated that steroids are not addictive in any way, as compared to crack, heroin, etc.

Not sure you have read the above articles as they are regarding psychological side effects. Evidence does show that long term AS can cause distorted thinking (i.e. depression, anxiety etc). There is no evidence to say the drug causes a physical dependency but ''possible'' psychological sides and POSSIBLE dependency (a view i do not subscribe to but is being investigated).

Suggest you read all the articles Bro as you seem to have commented on something unrelated.

Hulkster,
Just re-read the thread and maybe you have picked up on a earlier comment i made

currently over 100 people gaining treatment in the Priory (Private health care hospitals for addiction / depression in) for psychological effects brought on by AAS usage

The addiction / depression is a description of the main ''problems treated in these hospitals which are well known in UK but probably unheard of in USA hence my poor attemtp to describe.
Apologies if this is what confused you.

I'm sure a lot of us have had the urge to "just stay on"... and we all know after a cycle natural training is just not a very attractive proposition, so i can definitely see a certain element of psychological addiction.

Most can easily fight these tendecies, but the tendencies are definitely real.

I agree Lift Chief each indivisual user is different and so no hard and fast rules but as with other stimulants the can be physiological issues can be accelerated or caused.

Much is spoken with regards to physical addiction of sunstances such as Heroin & cocaine but anyone that has either experienced / researched physiological issues associated with these substances will state they are as severe and still very evident post physical dependency stopping. SIMILAR physiological issues have been found and experienced with AAS use but not in anyway making the physical sides similar but do think we can learn much form research in the physiological treatement used with addictions.

what are the possible side effects in the male for reproduction, and if any on the status of the fetus and the outcome of the child, can there be negative effects due to AAS use by the male on a child and the birth process? aside from a low sperm count....

There is nothing about the chemical make up of cocaine that makes it physcially addictive. It is however very psychologically addictive, which creates a mental craving for more in order to avoid the hard crash associated with coming down. Heroin and alcohol on the other hand are both physically and psychologically addictive.

AAS, although not physically addictive is definitely psychologically addictive. Much of this is experienced shortly after coming off a cycle, which for many causes an extreme depression. That coupled with the hormone changes taking place post-cycle can cause an AAS user to stay on for an extended peroid of time, which can lead to health risks and other problems. Most people who are serious about cyclying become obsessed with the idea that more is better. They increase their dosages with each cycle and pretty soon they're taking between 2-3 grams of test a week. If that doesn't model addictive behavior I don't know what does.

Labeling steroids as a whole as being psychologically addicting is misguided. There is a major difference between the side-effects of using, or even abusing, Anavar and Primo------as compared to using, or even abusing, dbols and anadrol.

i dont know about you guys but i only ever raged one time real bad. cytaho 250 750 mg a week. i think for the most part all AS users know the possible effects and make sure that they stay calm and collect just to avoid rage.... but hey thats juut me what do i know

So what can we do to minimize the psychological effects of going off? Clean diet and keeping up your workouts would help, but what else? Is there any drugs or herbals that would be effective for post cycle depression to take for a month or so after the end of a cycle?
