*NOTE* to mods, admin, and the other powers-that-be...please leave this open.

It's not meant to antagonize an already potentially volatile situation, I just posted this up so us NP's can have a place to gather together...where we can feel appreciated by each other's company.

You know...kinda like the "nerd room" at a party...where the hosts send the nerds to congregate so they don't mingle (annoy?) the "important" guests.

Oh...before anyone gets the wrong idea...

No, this isn't a K thread.

Given the fact that K is essentially meaningless to us now, what's the point?

BTW...speaking of K...why not give us the option to disable our K completely?

(Look at how many people have already given their K away in the past. It obviously means a lot more to some than it does to others.)

Lastly...a humble request to anyone who might post on this thread;

No flames. Keep it civilized.

Please?
 
Yes, why not just remove our karma completely? It's next to useless now. While you're at it, how about removing our ability to post as well? It's not as if we generate traffic for this site or make it interesting so that membership has tripled in the past two years. We have absolutely no effect so just make us invisible. You've already pretty much done that anyway.

Our number of hits per day was cut in half and our karmic power formula was reworked as well. Mine dropped by more than half. What this does of course is make us lepers. Why bother hitting us at all since we can't return it very often and our power is greatly reduced.

I know this was said "tongue-in-cheek", but that's EXACTLY the message EF is sending those who either choose not to, or can't afford to (as in my case) go plat.

Hey man...in all seriousness...if EF doesn't want us NP's around, all they gotta do is say the word.

I don't hang where I ain't welcome.

but I gotta go w/ my bro on this one.
In a way I also feel alienated here.

Don't wanna go thru my persoal situation, but at the moment I can't afford to pay another monthly "bill". I already have enough to take care of and every penny counts for me. I don't want anyone's sympathy on this matter, but some comprehension would be appreciated.

I feel I'm contributing here, well I hope so...
but I don't see why I'm sorta obligated to pay for participating in a forum.

I've met a few cool people so far and I wouldn't want to leave anytime soon.

I think it's stupid. But that's just my take on this and what do I know? I'm just a girl. But I think that people who aren't plat have earned their karma just like anyone else has and a lot of them contribute tons to the board.
 
wow if u non plats think k is not worth it any more than you can always give it all to me!!!! i honestly wouldnt mind...
and yes i would like to hear george also, see why he did this he should have warned non plats first so they could have the oppertunity to go plat first

You're not getting it, why would we go plat? Many of us have contributed a ton to this board and some HAVE been paid plat members in the past. We generate traffic to this board and generate revenue for its owner. As a thank you, we are told to go away. Yeah, that gives us some big incentive to pay to be here. Fuck that.
 
This isn't the best marketing move by Georgie... I certainly hope he re-thinks his strategy here. Business 101: You get more business by having a quality product. This "product," being EF, has gone downhill by alienating non-plats, so why would they want to invest in something that has taken away from them.

Some things to think about before this gets any worse and seriously backfires.

Well, with vBulletin I guess there's only so much they can add in the way of additional features for Platinum Members, so the only way to add perceived value is to take away more and more standard features for non-plats.

Seems to me like the plats already get the Lion's share of the kill...and then some.

Like I said before...pretty soon us low-life NP's will be reduced to communicating on EF via smoke signals and war drums.
 
guys, get over it. karma whoring is a feature of the site that is now basically a paying member function, you still can get karma, and give it.. just in a more limited fashion... paying members get full functionality, non paying members don't.

you still get to read and post as much as you want... for now.

This is as much of the change as I care to work out:
Plats:
1 Power for every 2000 hits
1 Power for every month
1 Power for every 500 posts
1 Power for every anniversary

Non-plats:
1 Power for every 4000 hits
1 Power for every 3 months
1 Power for every 1000 posts
Nothing for anniversaries

When it really comes down to it these changes mostly affect C&C and POW fora. Over in the Weights, Power, Diet and 'Roids fora hardly anyone gives out Karma unless it's to get rid of the message to spread Karma so you can hit up a post you really think deserves it or just to thank someone for help. Here in C&C Karma flows like water and everyone wants to play with it. It's the measure of your stature.

Limiting Karma power to paying members will have little effect on many posters who stick to the serious sections but the C&C forum keeps a lot of people entertained. It's the serious sections which get people here for the first time but, for many, the C&C section keeps them here. With the C&C section the overall quality and worth of the site is maintained. With the Karma setup we have as of today there's a lot less incentive to play in C&C as a non-plat. As such, there'll be less interaction for newbies and less likelihood of hanging around.

I don't see this as a good change, most especially the crippling of the number of hits per day. The message that I've handed out too much in the last 24 hours usually causes me to go elsewhere for a while and click on someone else's sponsers.

but I think its a good change, it doesn't really affect people much, its only karma. and it gives the karma whores who are feeloading a real incentive to go plat.

plus.. as a paying member, i can now hit MORE times per day, don't have to spread as much, and my K power is higher! I'm happy.
 
I have been spending far less time on EF since the last round of non-plat raping.

This will only increase the time I spend at other boards even more....since karma is useless for me now.

Plus at least twice in the past few years I've said things that were somewhat helpful.

I think the plats are very good to us. They may have extra perks but they pay for it. It's not like we are being isolated and left out. Plus, I think it would be better if people had to be on for a while to become a platty. When some newbies come on(like me), they assume the plattys are the ones that know wtf they are talking about. What good is it to have a platty on if they've only been on EF for 2 weeks or whatever? Seriously. Just my 2cents. Sit back, open your mind and enjoy it. If u get the money later to become plat, do it. If not, SO WHAT about karma! Big deal.
 
the changes could have been made without taking anything from the np's. i think most of us woulda been less insulted without the changes going retro.

I didn't say you insulted me. It just irritated me that someone diffused the G-bomb I dropped. Like I said, it was nothing personal, I would have hit anybody that did that.

Totally agree, would hit you if I could but I think I can only hit about 2 every 24hrs.- not sure. I can't right now,anyway you wouldn't be missin' much.
