ya man..my mothers slk is nice (ive posted pics here) but the others ones aint cute..same with bmw...someone needs to bangel who designed all those ... jaguars look good and they only change there look a small bit from generetion to generation...

I like tacos. And will not drive MBs as long as Lexus is better, which is looking like forever these days. Lexus has a prototype of a $160K coupe in the works to go after the top end MBs.

Depending on what you are getting. The BIG difference is the fact that you can get a Benz or a BMW pretty much empty... whereas in the US you normally have to go with leather and auto A/C as standard equipment. If you don't want those things you simply leave them out.
Then there is the whole issue with the € exchange rate... It could be they are comparatively cheaper in the US now...number of cars on the road is not an indication since Germans are freaks for their cars and they will save on other areas to get that Silver-Benz.
They are not a cheap car here, that is for sure, but not OVERLY expensive when compared to something similar (always a bit more expensive than a comparative Beemer, for example or an Audi)

I haven't had any probs with my benz, but then again, I only have 16K miles on it. But the new ones are fucking ugly in the back.
I would go with a convertible or a SUV by benz before I went with one of those old stomped out Saab wannabes. Unfortunately, my job calls for a sedan at times.

99% of the american buyers buy their benzes and bimmers for status and style, not unusable high speed cruising abilities. they want a well built, trouble free, reliable and comfortable status symbol. something that the germans have not done well for a decade. resting on their past laurels has cost them dearly.
MB and BMW have drove away their once-loyal customer base with over pricing, shoddy electronics, marginal a/c systems (in the late 80's and 90's), rushing models into production (benz in this decade), head gaskets prone to self destructing (bmw, late 80's) and arrogant, hostile, plain ol' lousy dealer service. ("ze problem es not wid de machine, de problem ez the drivva")
lexus and infiniti have produced cars that run well forever, freeze you out with their a/c systems, maintain their paint and interior quality in all the varied climates of this country, keep their resell value better than the germans, and excell at dealer service (the few times it is needed!)

Yeah MB have missed the mark a few times lately, and have some products that aren't best-in-class at the moment. They are struggling to find a new market niche because their old stodgy conservative customer base is a dying breed, just like Cadillac's; and like Cadillac they're trying a bit too hard to appear "hip" and "relevant". But to suggest that Lexus has them on the run, that MB are in trouble, is ludicrous. Don't forget that Daimler Benz, a fairly small manufacturer by giant automotive corporate conglomerate standards, were able to BUY one of the big-3 US auto makers. Call me when Toyota buys GM.

tight fitting body panels
vibraton free engines
quick, firm but buttery smooth shifting automatic transmissions
interiors and dashboards that do not squeak or crack in the sun
climate control systems that keep the occupants comfortable
the above areas are where lexus and infiniti are "better" than the germans in the last 10 years or so.
a lexus LS 430 is no dog in acceleration.......the car is so silent, smooth and comfortable the occupants just don't realize how fast they are haulin' ass.

When I drove on the autobahn, I was in a mid-market BMW. It was fun, I like the high speeds, I like whenthe left lanes mean something. Driving from Jacksonville to Palm Beach is the closest comparison I have over here - less traffic, smaller roads, but still high speeds, because most of FL is rural.

Also I like chicken wings and tacos, but never together. And chili dogs.
