The Longest Day

As much as I appreciate the sacrifice for our country, it's still very hard for me to watch having relatives that endured it.

One of my uncles "dropped out" after he returned from WWII, he was in the 82nd. I never met him but my niece is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet.

I can't understand what my father endured...a corpsman that served on Tarawa and Iwo...but I try to understand...

 
I watched a documentary on PBS last night, Hallowed Ground, I think it was called. All about the overseas American military cemetaries of WW1 and 2. It was short (less than an hour), but powerful.

My grandfather just went to visit his brothers gravesite in Holland for the first time last year. The pictures he took and brought back were moving.

Yeah, the monuments and landscape architecture of all these cemeteries are breathtaking. It's also pretty cool that each countries' citizens are able to 'adopt' graves to care for.
