"The Jesus Dynasty"

anyone saw Nightline last night? Martin Bashir interviewed the writer Dr. Tabor and theologian Dr Carson. This Dr. Carson unnerved me so bad when he said this:

What Dr. Tabor has done is assumed that the whole thing cannot be," Carson said. "It is a sham and therefore the evidence has to be jiggered, it has to be selectively appealed to in order to take away the evidence of God actually doing something in space, time, history. At that point, no amount of evidence will ever convince him unless he's open to the possibility that Dr. Tabor himself is wrong … and that God has disclosed himself in space, time and history through a man. Namely, Jesus of Nazareth."

what evidence can he put up front to defend his theory (The Bible)? He called the whole book mythological! I really dont know how can the Bible NOT be mythological. How can he be so sure of the validity of the Bible to discredit any new studies, when even the Catholic Church has been aknowledging some of the mistakes of the old Church and changing through time. What is so wrong with looking at Jesus as a normal human being?

I wish I would have seen that. It sounds very interesting.

Hey, do you know of the book that basically proposes that the catholic church was the first political party/system?

I don't know the title, I haven't read it, I have heard about it though and wanted to get it.

Yeah, definitely get Under the Banner of Heaven on half.com Did you read the jacket? The book is awesome, I feel like reading it again.

Because that ruins the history of Jesus and his supposed sacrifice. Mere mortals cannot be looked upon to make a sacrifice in the year 20 A.D.

Is Thor just a mere mortal? Or can Thor crap thunder and shoot lightning bolts from his ass?

If Jesus was just a normal guy, most people would brush off the story of his sacrifice. By giving him super powers, it makes the story of his death more of a story.

In 2006, if some Iraqi carpenter in Teva's was rounded up and nailed to a cross using steel nails, it would barely make the front page of our national newspapers.

Thats why I go to B&N. I look for books on sale and check out the books that I am interested in

Gotmilk - its weird how with new discoveries these people choose to close their eyes. You know, I would still respect him even if he wasnt Son of God. Also, there is a lot of pagan elements about the virgin birth and about Christmas, but people still stick to what they know. IMO, all these things should not shake someones beleif, only widen it

oh....Noah's Ark is real. They confirmed the arc via satellite stuck in 15000 feet of ice in Northern Turkey.

The Turkish government still will not allow an expedition to remove the arc's remains

I've seen something like that on TV, but they said that its impossible to go and dig there. But, I still doubt that it was as big as it said in the Bible. Plus, which one it really is - Noahs or Utnapishtims?

GOd is largely absent in the affairs of men. Just ask the children in 3rd world countries that are starving and abused every day. Why would he care about you and neglect them?

Yeah, right. How did they confirm this, by taking measurements? Mankind is a liar. Probably want people to believe this to control them as the elitist govt always has.

Kind of like the "monument face on Mars, probably an optical illusion. The human mind tries to construct patterns, so I'm not surprised someone found a pattern.

That's a good book... Discusses the Mormon extremists and their way of life. Very interesting.

I always felt the Christian scientists were the most "faithful" to the biblical dogma. If everything that happens is God's will then medical treatment is pointless. If it's God's will you live then you will live.

I question that rational under the premise that it seems contradicting to other uses of technology... Why would God give us the ability to create and develop technology if it wasn't intended for us to use? Why is it ok to use technology in every aspect of life, with the singular exception of medicine?

That line of thought would make sense if they were Amish or something. To benefit from the everyday utilization of modern technology, while disallowing it's benefits in healthcare, seems irrational.

Admittedly, I am not as familiar with Christian Scientists as I am with other groups.

I kinda have the same thought as Java. Mostly cause it was forbidden by the Church to do any kind of experiments - the disecting of the human body was forbidden, cause they believed that the body is sacred; any person with a knowledge of chemistry was persecuted etc...

I agree. The human mind will see what they want to see. And the human mind wont see what they perceive as not possible to be there

They have been looking at this site for over 50 years. Thanks to a little global warming, the ice caps in this area melted allowing satellites to pick up the outline of the ship.

You have any other ideas as to why a ship is 15000 feet up a mountain?

How many years passed before we found the tombs of Egyptian kings?

Since the bible was never written by God himself there will always be inconsistencies/misconceptions. Nobody's perfect and no one's word is better than anyone elses.

The Egyptians were right - The Pussy is the divine ruler of the world.

That's true the pussy does have power.

I learned that in a porno. :)

What is so wrong thinking maybe there is no God? If no one knows where he came from or " always was" or what ever.

if you can acually put that in your brain and except it. why can they not do the same with human. ?? there had to be a start but it is easier to believe God did it. well who made him?

I am a good guy I do to others as i would have them do to me. Just seems right not because a god my spank me

people have to relize it is possible to be born and never know anthing about god or his rules or the bible. If this is possible then how can there be a punishment for not fallowing the rules?

if there was a god he would make sure you knew them from day one. He would want you to do what he said so he would make it very clear what the consequences were not just leave it up to people to tell you and give a choice between different religions.

there would be 1 line to walk and that would be that. the end

I actually agree. Maybe there is no God, maybe we are the Gods within ourselfs and we are the ones creating evil. THose people just needed to put the blame on somoene else, as humanity always does

we should not be afraid to question things. I love to think and have an imagination. Could of been this or could of been that? People think in order to have good we need religion. Will they ever realize we are good with out it because people naturally want other people to like them if they are mean people wont like them that is it.. We have the ability to think oh man if I do that so and so will think i am an ass, or so and so will think i am a liar. That is how we are socialized I mean some people are wired differently but in the most part that is the case.

I guess it comes to what point do religious people think science interferes with God's will. What happens when technology advances to the point of "virtual immortality."

Jesus was mortal. He says many times the reason he was able to perform the miracles he performed was because of his faith in his father's (God) power. That's why his story is amazing and why his sacrifice means so much... becuase he went through his trials as a human.

I am a Christian but I feel that Christian society takes away from what Jesus accomplished by making him out to be God, walking around on Earth with all the powers of God. I wish they could realize that it's almost an insult to insinuate that it would be difficult for God to go through those trials. Jesus Christ was a man!

Please don't get me wrong, I do believe Christ was the seed of God and became part of the God head after the resurection (our interceder to God, he allows us to speak to God through him, without God seeing our sins). However, I feel strongly that all of his accomplishments on Earth were as a mortal human being.
