Something to think about:

Manic Depression Drugs Have Something in Common

They all act on the same molecule

THURSDAY, May 16 (HealthScoutNews) -- Three drugs commonly used to treat manic depression all have something in common in the way they work.

Lithium, carbamazepine and valproic acid all deplete a neurotransmitter called inositol, researchers at University College in London say in a new study published in today's journal Nature.

This finding provides a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in manic depression and the action of the drugs used to treat it, the researchers say.

Their study suggests the search for clinical diagnostic tests and new mood-stabilizing drugs for manic depression should focus on inositol phosphate signaling pathways.

More information

While the above-named drugs and signaling patterns can be complex and confusing, this link to the National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association can answer many basic questions as to how to deal with manic depression and bipolar disease.

Interesting stuff bro. I have never used inositol, but I have heard it can help your mood a little. Have you used it?

How much Inositol is required for a therapeutic effect?

Are there any other guidelines for its use as a supplement (i.e. with or without meals, taken at certains times of day, other supplements required, etc)?

Wait - I just re-read that .. They all DEPLETE Inositol?

Thats the opposite of taking an Inositol supplement ... right?

Now I AM confused. Maybe I need some Inositol .. wait, ... maybe I need less ..... uhh... LOL . damn.......

They deplete inositol because they (the drugs listed) are anti-manic depressive drugs. Manic depressives when in a manic phase have an excess of inositol and/or a greater sensitivity to inositol. Therefore, a manic depressive should not take inositol when in a manic phase (probably shouldn't take it at all).

Ok?

I used inositol back in my cocaine dealing days of the eighties - I used to cut the hell out of the powder 50/50 with inositol. I remember some people's moods when it had too much inositol - boy, were they mad!

Yes, inositol helps depression/anxiety.

Manic depression is a form of Bipolar depression. Manic depression is a very different disease to clinical depression. When in a manic phase, a manic depressive is not depressed but euphoric/deleriously happy. During a manic phase, a manic depressive seems to be more sensitive to the effects of inositol. Manic depressive medications act to deplete the brain of inostiol in order to prevent manic phases. Why stop a manic being happy? Cos manics often do all kinds of irresponsible things when manic.. sometimes they don't sleep.. they may go to London to visit the Queen.. they may bet away all their money.. They may go cuckoo ha ha.

Since inositol can precipitate (trigger) a manic phase, it makes sense that inositol can cure depression and/or anxiety. Manic depression is not the same as depression.

Therefore, for depression and anxiety take 2g or more (50g if you can afford it!) per day.. lovely jubbly. 2g is fine for me.

Ginkgo for erections. Inositol, B-complex and Macuna/broad beans (l-dopa) for happy feelings..

I have been using Inositol since seeing GaryWary's post back a while ago. Anxiety was a huge issue for me up until the time I started taking this stuff - it was a miracle for me. I take 2.4 grams in the morning, 2.4 grams in the evening.. am and considering upping my dosages to include another 2.4 grams a lunch. I use to use Zoloft. I came off the Zoloft, starting taking Inositol and now I feel much much better because I am no longer relying upon drugs to stabilize my mood.

Thanks GaryWary. If I had never read your post I would still be anxiety laiden.

Very very happy for you:rolleyes:

Spread the word..

Don't forget to take a B-complex as well.. eat a serving of broad beans every couple of days also.. or take a Macuna supplement every day (you can only buy Macuna in the USA). Flax seed also helps. Inostiol is king, but these other goodies help...

Marky, what's your personal impression of inositol? BTW, did the imiprimine get you back on track? I'm experimenting and trying to lower the dosage of my psych meds.

Bump for "what is the effective dose?"

Inositol is REAL cheap from beyond-a-century. While a lot of people focus on the mood effects, is is also useful for bodybuilders in other ways?

If you have better moods - your training will be better!

It helps liver function as well as any other supplement; therefore it may be good to use when on cycle. It helps protect against har loss, so again may be good supp on cycle...

Anyway, I have posted all this before.

I got flu at the moment; so I am going back to bed. Perhaps my girlfriend will feel sorry enough to give me a blowjob! Tee Hee. See you all in a month for cycle no. 3!!!

Here is beyonda-century's claim: INOSITOL is a sugar found in muscles that does not stimulate insulin release. It is relaxing, helps muscle growth, is a cell membrane stabilizer, and has antitumor & antioxidant properties. May be helpful against arthritis, and thinning or graying hair.

to kbrkbr

to the imipramine i did respond at a lower dose when I combined it with 40mg Paxil. Paxil prolongs the processing of imipramine and therefore increases the blood levels of the imipramine. the combined effect has brought me back from there. Feeling better than I have for some while.
