The Great White North

Bless all you tuff Canucks up there today. Despite the fact that I grew up on the north side of Lake Superior, I have spent most of my adult life south of the Mason - Dixon line and my blood is damn thin. Today its 43 F in ATL w/ crappy fog and its chilling me to my bones. I"m making my cat sit on my lap while I"m sitting.

I dont' know how y'all do it.

We Canadians are very affectionate - keep each other warm. When you see someone in the ditch you pull over - lend a hand. We shovel the driveway for that elderly neighbor (well I snow blow it). Then when it's pitch dark in the middle of the afternoon, so damn cold that the snow squeaks and everyone is getting depressed about it - we go to visit a friend or family, open a bottle or few, play some cards or just chat. Most of the time that's all it takes to get through it.

It doesn't hurt to go to the Caribbean for a few weeks either. :qt:

This is very true! Like we say in MN "Cold nose, warm heart" :)

Damn, my family never owned a snowblower. My dad is a "purist" -- we have a scoop - you know, a giant shovel. If there was a storm coming, dad would pile us into the tobaggan and pull us to the liquor store, get his supply of beer & we'd head home for an afternoon of golf or some stupid thing on the TV in front of the fireplace.

well canadian winters bitter sweet... I like winter (for the 2 week weeks that suround xmas... but today, my dear friends... I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!! get me the hell out of here, fast... I cant even open my door today, I'm officialy snowed in... I just called my dad to come over and dig me out... my dog needs to pee.... that ground hog better see his dame shadow... or i'll...aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well we got dumped on here last night in Michigan also. Looks like at least a foot to a foot and a half. Probably about a foot because it hits my puppy's stomach and boy 'HE' does not like that cold anywhere close to the stomach... Don't blame him. I just had to throw him in the snowbank and tell him to go.

Well, I don't live in Canada but in Delaware & we got some snow today......

Shoveled my elderly neighbor's sidewalk & steps, told him to go in & sit down & be quiet, cuz he's not shoveling!!

Up until yesterday we'd had less than 5" in the Twin Cities but yesterday we got a lovely coating of snow (about 8" at our house). It finally looks like winter! I don't mind cold but cold without snow is a bummer.

Growing up I didn't have to do much shoveling since my parents had a 600' long driveway. Even snowblowing it wasn't practical. So they had a crappy plow truck that they kept on the back of the land during the warmer months.

I got out of shoveling last night/today. We got to choose between cleaning the kitchen (including washing the floor) or shoveling. Hands down I chose the kitchen!

On a Canadian two dollar bill, the flag flying over the Parliament building is an American flag.

The next idiot that tries to drive up my street in a Honda Civic low rider, gets stuck & hits my truck will get a 2x4 thru their F*ck'n windshield!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

If it helps, one time in FL we were at the local boat ramp coming back from a scuba trip and some guy in a civic was trying to haul a boat out of the canal & up the ramp. It hauled the Civic into the canal.

Little bitch. LMAO.

OMFG nothing funner then a 220lb jacked shaved head britsh guy cussing bloody murder about the weather. He thought Canada wasn't going to be much colder then england boy was he wrong. ;)

Hate to put a pin in your urban myth, but it's actually Canada's old flag. It's just so small, it kind of "looks" like a US flag. It's actually not at all. It is a version of the British "Union Flag" (Union Jack is the name only if flown off a ship).

One of these is the version. (If you ever visit the Canadian Mint they have a larger version of the picture and the flag is clearly not a US flag).

See: http://flagspot.net/flags/ca-1907.html

OK, speaking of "White" & "North" I'm going to try to walk up to the gym.....should be interesting since our state shuts down completely with over 6" of snow & they don't plow the streets or shovel the sidewalks....

OH no. You're kidding. :(

Um, well better resort to BODY HEAT... :p

Yeah, that would have made it better..

Instead I had 3 pairs of socks pulled over my 4 pairs of sweats...you get the pic...... not much fun.

The bonus was: Every muscle was tensed trying to stay warm - that's gotta burn some cals!

Oh Gawd!! Power outages suck!! We get them here mostly in the summer.....

Well, walking to & from the gym was very interesting.....I had to climb in & out of piles of snow & walk in the street......that walk was my CV for the day....

I'm picturing similar to my nephews getting bundled up in their snow suits like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man!

Oh well, looks like you'd be able to clear a driveway faster with a shovel then I could with a blower - damn those are huge pipes :qt:

OK kids .. Its official. I live in the great white north.

This weekend Atlanta had an "Ice Event". And dang if there wasn't still a bunch of mushed up ice on the sides of the roads driving into downtown today.

Dayum. That's just wrong on so many levels. :worried:

It beats your location last year.. Darren called me from San Francisco and told me it was 75 in Walnut Creek. He rode his Scoot to the gym! I need to move soon. I miss the LA weather...
