THE DEATH PENALTY - Completely Pointless!

The Death Penalty, ladies and gentleman, has to be the most worthless and pointless forms of punishment. Let me rephrase, it is the most worthless and pointless forms of punishment. It accomplishes nothing whatsoever. It does not deter others away from crime whatsoever, it does not do one thing about overcrowding in prisons, it does not serve as an example to any. In your honest opinion, what do you think is worse? Death or Life in Prison? If you have never been in jail, even for a day, don't answer. Being locked up is no joke. It has to be one of the worst experiences a person can undergo, especially for a long period of time. Life in prison with restrictions galore(only 2 hours of sunlight a day, 3 meals, 6 x 4 cage, no window, no communication with others for 90% of the time, almost complete seclusion) is much worse of a punishment than death, this is what should replace "death row", seclusion and restictions galore. Don't give me the "I pay taxes so prisoners can live" bullshit either. Your taxes that you pay are not going to make or break you, the taxes are not going to have you scrounging in the gutter. What does the death penalty accomplish? Many say "it brings peace and serenity to the family of the victim". Garbage I say, thats a typical excuse, how sad is it when peace and serenity is accomplished by someone elses death. A person about to commit a crime is not going to stop and say to his/her self "hey, maybe I should not do this because of the death penalty". If my entire family was killed by a madman, I would ask that that person gets life in prison, death is the easiest way out. Put that bastard in Rikers or Pelican's Bay, thats hell on earth. Many will say prisons are over crowded, prisons are big business, just build more, and what does one death a month solve at a prison, even a death a day solves nothing in respect to overcrowding. The Death Penalty is a travesty, a moronic judge and jury with the combined IQ of a catatonic moose in heat says "death by lethal injection" because we are going to make an example out of you Mr. Killer, yeah right fuck hats, criminals are lauging, people that are involved in illegal activities are laughing, society is laughing, the Death Penalty has about as much impact as a Carrot Top upper cut. This country and the govt. has some sad, sad ways and means of dealing with issues of today, I expect nothing less though, especially from them. peace

I like the old testaments penalty for murder and if you look you'll find it's not the initially the death penalty. It is servitude to the family which you have wronged.

Think about it. You kill my wife, you become my woman or man servant for life and I get everything you own. EVERYTHING. Your house, your dog, your car, your wife, or husband and kids, there mine too!

What does this represent. The complete destruction of the perpetrators life as a reflection of the life the perp completely destroyed. Not as a replacement, but as a penance.

This gives everyone a chance to learn and grow too through this experience. By having the perp who killed my spouse as a servant I have the chance to learn compassion and understanding. They have the chance to learn humility, grace and forgiveness. Plus they get to learn how give pedicures. I always have wanted one of those!

As for your long ass diatribe about the death penalty I'm with ya havoc. It serves only politicians who want votes from angry people who really don't want to do anything but be angry.

It's kinda funny that you brought up the tax issue, cuz is most people's concern. Actually it can cost 3 times more to execute a person than it does to keep them in jail for 60 years. The court fees are outragous, because they want to make sure that the accused person is really guilty.

As far as killing a person for the crimes the have commited, I am against it. Havoc is right, it does nothing. I read an article in the paper yesterday about a priest who commited suicide after witnessing an execution. The prisoner begged the priest to hold his hand, which is forbidden, so the priest didn't and just watched as the killer begged and cried for his hand. Now we have a dead priest as well. I'm not the religious type, but that is insane, and I didn't really appreciate the jist of the story, so fuck the death penalty, I'm with Havoc.

first off, carrot top is not that big of a bitch. yes everyone can go ahead laugh their asses off at me, but you can tell the guy is in shape from his commercials. he is skinny but does have some definition underneath that fro. how about David Spade? skinny fat is the key.
and i agree 100% with capital punishment. yes, forcing someone into a life of solitude is an extremely harsh form of punishment that i can't even begin to fathom what it would be like for year after year. i would go nuts. but i can imagine if someone killed a family member or friend of whatever. my cat even. i would want that person eradicated from my planet for good. i wouldn't want to give them a chance to have some form of communication with the outside world by which they can order more harm done. just get the fuck off my planet and never breathe the same air that i do ever again. and it would be done by hanging or in some less humane fashion. i would give the victim's family the option to decide how it was done, depending on the cruelty of the crime. life is the greatest gift anyone here has and will ever be given, and someone who chooses to rape someone else of that gift relinquishes their right to their own life. blam you die.

I think the death penalty is handed out too often. But there are some cases where there's no doubt. Case in point. McVeigh confessed.

I really don't care if the death penalty is a deterent or not. It certaily deters the criminal who gets the chair from killing again! I really don't care what happens to violent criminals. They certainly do not get the punishment they deserve. I wonder if you had someone you cared about brutally murdered if you would still feel this way?
