I read something in Arnold's Encyclopedia today I found interesting. He basically says the day before a contest, he would do 1 set to failure every hour for 12 hours for all his weak body parts. According to him, the next day his weak areas were 1/2 an inch and in some cases a full inch bigger. Now obviously this is a temporary thing, but I was wondering what the reason for this was (extra glycogen, swelling, etc?) and if possible, could this be done every month or so to promote growth?

Interesting idea. Id like to hear more about that myself

I'd like to hear more about it too. I'd guess the reason is because of a pump, since the muscles would be flushed with blood from the circuit-like training. Being done every 12 hours to renew the affect. I could be wrong, though.

Just re-read it, he says a minimum of 14 hours, not 12. So 1 set to failure every hour for at least 14 hours.

yea and make sure you scream through your posing routine he's arny but i don't see that working unless youare aan insulin user

As far as doing something like that for consistent gains, forget it. Temporary pumps, inflamation and the like - okay. Not sure about the 1/2-1" but it's probably a smaller relative % for arnold that it would be for people smaller and less developed than him. It's kind of important to keep in mind that Arnold was a great BBer but his knowledge of training was and still is pretty lacking. Granted a lot of people follow his advice with something not far removed from fanatic religious adherence but the world would be better off and people would be a lot bigger if they picked up any of these books instead:
Supertraining
Science and Practice of Strength Training
Fundmentals of Special Strength Training in Sport
Managing the Training of Weightlifters

Just curious what the logic behind it is .. I may enter a contest this summer, so trying to get as much info as possible
