hilarious line-up, sounds fun. Horton is good live. Cramps are too -- back in the day anyway. . . curious to see them now :)

I would also make it a point to catch Big Sandy, and The Blasters (especially if Dave Alvin is back with them).

Oh, and try to catch Deke Dickerson too! And Supersuckers.

I went to the show, it was yesterday. I will try to be as descriptive as I can with the experience, but unfortunatley, I was so hammered that details are few. I was also able to sneak into the VIP area, I hung out for a little while, but then went back outside which is where the real fun was anyways.

It was an outdoor event in a ranch deep in the hills of Irvine. We got there just a little before the gates opened at around 11:30AM. It was so fucking hot and sunny, my face is real red and I have tan marks from my shades. SInce it was going to be to be a long day, I was planning to hold off drinking until later in the day, but by 1:30PM I was laready pretty thrashed. I think there only two bands the entire night that did not sport upright bass's. One real cool side attraction was this booth were they put an old car and they would let people bang it up with a sledge hammer, for free (you just had to sign some release form). Unfortunately, by the time I got to it, all the good brakeable and bendable parts and been bent or broken, but it was still fun.

There were 3 stages, the main stages (A and B) were the headliners played, were set up side by side. When one band finsihced playing, all you had to do was turn or move to the right or left to see the next band. The third stage ws a small one set up near the entrance, mostly bands with lower exposure played there. I happen to be walking by the third stage and saw that Deke Dickerson was playing. I remembr Mr. DB mentioning him, so I hung out and listened to the rest of his set. He plays some real good rockabilly shit, thanks DB.

Unfortunately, the main stages had a few B and C grade psychobilly bands early in the day. These types of psychobilly bands usually don't have the skills to keep me listending for too long. The first song or two sound good, but after that all the songs start sounding the same, it takes good A grade psychobilly band to give things some variation (Nekromantics, Demented Are Go).

The Psychobilly band Three Bad Jacks, played the third stage, they are what I would have considered a C grade band becasue they are relatively unknown. I have a friend who had seen them live before and she advised me to catch their performance, so I did. They opened up their set with a cover of "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead. These guys did a great fucking job with that song, they also played a damn good set, along with an awesome mosh pit that I just couldn't resist. I guess one of their schticks is to set the upright bass on fire while the bass player keeps playing. Of course they did this too, and the ycrowd loved it. I think these guys have some A grade classification potential. I'd definately check them out.

I got to see afew song from the HorrorPops. They have a chick singer and give a great performance. This was my first time listening to them and I really enjoyed the music, I think I'm going to go out and buy their CD. I also caught the last few songs of the SuperSuckers, they had a gigantic pit going. I wish I could have cought more of theri show.

The Revernad Horton Heat played an awesome set, as always. He played right before the Cramps.

I saw a lot of other bands in between, but I can't remmebr who they were or how they played, I really wish I would have cought Big Sandy though.

Now, to The Cramps. The Cramps closed the show and they were the main reason I was there. This was my first time seeing them live, and since they are now "older" I was little worried of what to expect. Fortunately, they did not disappoint me. Lux Interior (lead singer) came otu with a bottle of wine, wearing some vinyl pants that made his package very apparent and hair that screamed Rock and Roll! Poison Ivy (female Gutarist) wore a vinyl coat that flared like a short skirt, and was short enough to show the grandma panties she wore over fishnet stockings. I am sure the big cat eye shades she wore hid some tell tale signs of age on her eyes, but I was amazed at how good she still looks. I was delighted to see that they have plenty of Punk Rock left in them as the band palyed through Lux's on stage antics. They closed the set with "Surfing Bird", do to theatrics, this song lasted abotu 20 mins. IN the middle of the song, Lux pulled his pants down right above the crotch, with half of his ass hanging out. He then climbed the wall of speakers at which point security pulled him down, he then jumped onto the crowd, at which point security brought him back. He then gave a bottle of whine to the crowd (I was two people away from the person he gave it to), then a few minutes later, grabbed another bottle and smashed on the stage. He then ripped his shit and ripped slits in the legs of his pants and started rolling around, ala Iggy and the Stooges. The nthe set ended. I thought it was brilliant! I talked to severla people, who were there fora rockabilly show, who did not like or care for theri performance. One thing they don't understand is that The Cramps are Punk, so they played and performed a Punk set, not a rockabilly set. Also, in the middle of the set, he threw out a harmonica he used in one song, I reached my hand out and it hit my finger tips, but then fell to the ground were some chick behind me got it (I think someone stole from her later).

Sorry ,this is so long. For those of you that care, I would write more, but this is as much as my exhausted, hung over mind can recall.

Can't wait for next year!

Side Note:
I was wearing this New York Dolls T-shirt
new600i.gif

some guy came up to me and told me that they were palying again. I said "Aren't they all dead?" Apparently, Johansen is touring with 3 other guys, as the New York Dolls, WTF!!! How can you be the New York Dolls without Johnny Thunders, Richard Hell or Sylvain Sylvain? Will these guys do the drag thing too, they would have to right?

Wow, that's a detailed review! Sounds like you had quite the time. I also like a lot of the bands that you've mentioned...cramps, rev. heat, new york dolls...and I rarely run across someone else who's even just *heard* of them. Good stuff!
