The condo building that EATS people.... (mystery thread)

Have there been any more dissappearances since 2004?

No, they just stopped.

It looked as if it were some one doing it only during that time period each year, maybe an out of towner visiting or something.. but nothing could be found that was remotely a clue.

Either it was an impossible coincedence, or the person(s) behind it moved on to another city or some other fate (death, accident, jail, etc..) restricted them from returning to the area.

Fucking spooky as hell. Last year they had a refresher article ran in the paper just to see if it sparked any new leads. They released the video tapes that showed the guys coming home by themselves, but there is no video tape that shows them leaving the building after their last entry.

A serial killer wouldn't just stop. Possibly if that was the case they moved away but I would assume they went through everyone's units in the building checking up on them. Definitely fits a serial killer MO though.

No security cams in the halls obviously. Imagine if you lived in a unit with two 2's in it. I'd move.

The serial killer idea is pretty much the accepted theory about it. However, I don't think it was that lived in the building. I mean if so, why wait until June to do it? I was thinking that it was someone living nearby that somehow managed to gain unnoticeable access to the building through a blind spot or something. Or a serial that was always in town during June for a convention or something.

They have cams in the parking lots, the entry foyer, and all elevators.

they would see the guys park, come in through the entrance, get in the elevator and get out of the elevator on their floor, and never be seen again.

Can we get a link to the article for this?

If you have links to news archives (I don't) I am sure there would be something online about it. The last mention of it was an article a year ago.

A handsome bachelor who had just completely remodeled his condo, Mark Douglas Jackson, 35, vanished from his penthouse suite of the Drake Tower three years ago on June 27. He has not been seen since. The same goes for Barry Block and David George Rhodes, who have been missing from the Drake since 2003. At least one more resident is suspected of vanishing as well.

Fort Lauderdale police Detective Jim Curcio this week has been calling family members of the missing men, trying to determine any whereabouts or news. The last vanishing incident occurred when Jackson unexpectedly left a friend and walked back to his condo at 4 a.m. after a night of partying.

Jackson's case has stymied investigators and sent shock waves through nearby Wilton Manors, where gays enjoy a majority representation on the city council.

Police twice drained a section of the South Fork Middle River cuddled next to the Drake, searching for Jackson, said the condo's manager, Bruce Tanner. Tanner grew to know Jackson and spearheaded a media campaign to solve the case, which was profiled on ``America's Most Wanted.''

``You would never in a million years think that this would happen to Mark,'' Tanner said.

Investigators found small amounts of cocaine, amphetamines and methedrine in Jackson's room, according to the police report. His friend arrived the next morning to find Jackson gone with no explanation. The friend has passed a polygraph test. Also noted was that Jackson had no history of drug use or abuse.
