This thing is scary as hell. If it hits our country it could wipe out millions of people in days. We really need to get prepared for this when it happens!

The last article I read said it had killed around seventy people worldwide. What makes "this country" more susceptible than China or Turkey?

i tell you it's gonna be like a modern day plague.

More people die from alcohol.
And we had the S.A.R.S scares, and the Y2K scare.

Dont let the paranoia get you. Plan but dont live in the woods through media "facts"

It could be bad, but only 70 people so far dead, thats not much really. \an equal amount of people probably died falling down the stairs worldwide.

In the US there are roughly 30k flu related deaths every year, mostly the very young and the very old. We average around 40k deaths a year on the highways. The Bubonic plague killed between 1/3 and 1/2 of the European population.

You're missing the point though, modern bird flu is not deadly but it can mutate into something horrible. The current avian flu is not transmissible between humans. In a nutshell there are the 2,3 receptors and the 2,6 receptors in the lungs. The bird flu only attaches to the 2,3 receptor, while human flu prefers the 2,6 receptor. That is why bird flu is not very deadly, it is not contagious.

However the fear is that a form of bird flu will mutate that has the deadliness of the avian flu (30-50% mortality rate) that can also bind to the 2,6 receptor. This can happen in humans or pigs, so if someone or some pig gets bird flue and human flu at the same time that could cause a massive plague. Once that happens you'll have a flu that infects over a billion people and kills 30% of them.

The regular flu kills about 0.1% of people who get it. The flu epidemic of 1918 killed 2.5% of people who got it. Avian kills 30-50%. The 1918 epidemic, even with that low mortality rate still killed 40-100 million people. This at a time when the world's population was only about 2 billion.

I still got rolls of duct tape, plastic wrap and a couple 55 gal drums of gas left over from 2k.
