The Beast Is Back!! 5 More PR's On Flat Bench!!

WalkingBeast

Hey all!! Hit 4 or 5 more PR's today on the flat bench. 5 in my journal! haha Most would count it as 2 PR's though, since all but 2 PR's are partial rep PR's. But this is how I progress! The main PR's being 390x1 and 400 1/2 way up. I can fucking taste 405 now! ThanX for all the encouragement!! You all kick FUCKING ass!! Heres the excerpt from my journal:

10-28-04 Thursday Chest,Speed Bench, and Abs (KILLED THAT SHIT!! 4 more bench PR's! Closing in on 400)

A very good day today. I hit 4 PR's on the flat bench today. Ill count the 400 for 1/2 a rep too, so itll be 5 PR's in my written journal. Two of these PR's were partial rep PR's and the other 2 are full rep PR's. Rather then improving by the rep, my progress is slow at times, so I progress by 1/4 and 1/2 reps. Once I get a weight half way, Im close to completing the rep. I didnt lockout out 385 last week for example, it was a 3/4 rep, but today I locked out 390 without a problem. I did my two warm-up sets first, but I cut down the reps on my 275lb warm-up set. I usually do 275x8 this time I only did 5 reps. This seems like it might help conserve more energy. Ill be doing this from now on. Then I hit 315x9.5. Not a PR, but only a 1/4 rep from my best. So this meant I was back. Then I went for PR's with 335. I got 335 for 2 sets of 5.5 reps. Thats a 1/2 rep PR since my best was 335x5. I was a little over the half way mark and closer to 3/4's, but I only counted it as half. So 5.5 reps. 335 was feather light today. Moved it VERY quickly. Then after those 2 sets I went on to max out with 390. I KILLED that SHIT on the first attempt. It came up very fast off the bottom and didnt slow until the very top of the lift during lockout. At that point I fought it up. Then I jumped straight up to 400 for 3 attempts. Was good to finally attempt 400. I only got it half way on two of the attempts, but Im VERY close to 400 right now. Ill probabally jump straight to 400 rather then 395 in the following weeks. Ive managed some one rep max PR's even without focusing on one rep max, so Ill likely keep the routine this way, with the main focus on reps. What I mean by this is that I will do the one rep max attempts after Ive exhausted my main attempts for rep PR's. So it may appear my focus is one rep max, but really the reps are exhausted first. Then I decided to try and rep 365 for the first time. I got it 1.5 reps only, but still a half rep PR. Then I went down to 355 and hit it for a double which is a PR since 350x2.5 was my best. Not bad considering it was the end of my bench routine. Then I tried to rep 360 but was pretty burnt out by that point so only got one. I was going to do a few more sets but my training partner had to leave. This was my last week of the M1T. Ill be taking 2 weeks off from it, then going back on again for another low dose cycle. Seems to help alot. Heres the routine:

(196lbs on gym scale before meals and water, clothes on,199lbs after drinking 3lbs of water at the gym) ("Speed Stack")

Bench Press:

135x20
225x12
275x5 (warm-ups, cut my 275lb warm-up set down 3 reps)
315x9.5
335x5.5 (1/2 rep PR. a little over 1/2 way on last rep)
335x5.5 (same as last set)
390x1 (5lb PR)
400x(1/2 way up)
400x (1/2 way up)
400 (fail)
365x1.5 (1/2 rep PR)
355x2 (PR, Up from 350x2.5)
360x1 (Attempted to rep 360)

Speed Bench: (Reps done for maximum speed. Rest times were VERY short today. I even did 5 sets in a row without rest. Easy as always, but seems to help)

185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3
185x3

Hammer Strength Wide Chest Machine:

270x17 (Slow and controlled)

Abs:

Seated Crunch Machine:

110x15
130x15
135x15
140x15

good work man

Good stuff man. You might try cutting a few reps shy on your set of 315. Might leave you that little bit of energy needed to get 405 up.

Somebody outta buy you a t-shirt that says "Big Benchers 'R' Us".......made in the U.S.A. biatch!

Keep on keepin on killin that shiat.

DAMN GOOD JOB! I told you you'd be hitting that shit in no time. :) Good stuff. Keep at it.

NICE PRs,
BUT QUITE USING THE 2.5s!

:FRlol: :FRlol: ThanX brother!! Do you always jump 10-20lbs? Awesome shit!! Im real confident that I have the strength to break 400 now. Next week Ill probabally start off with 395, hopefully get it, then go onto 400. Or I may just go straight to 400. 10lbs seems like nothing at this point. Im fucking hungry for it! My real goal is 405, so 15lbs to go. Ill also be focused on the reps in the beginning most likely. Reps with 315 and 335 to failure, and then onto the max attempt. So it wont be the TRUE focus. Im sure I can still break 400 this way though. Also I only have 2 days left on the M1T before taking a 2 week break. Also ran out of Nitrix, which was a waste anyway. Keep KILLING that shit brother!!

Thats a sick bench!! Nice Job. Hows the deads comin? Im I correct in thinkin your nurseing a injury?

ThanX alot brother!! Yes, youre correct. Everytime I try to deadlift Ive been pulling out my lowerback. Im going to take a lay off for a while and try to get the problem figured out. Ill also try to strengthen the area with some hypers. Not sure what the future holds for deadlifting. Im still thankful I can push my limits on heavy upper back work, presses and everything else. I FUCKING miss deadlifts though! They were such a rush. Nothing gives me that adrenaline surge and satisfaction as a deadlift. I loved that panic attack feeling before each heavy set. Its just not the same with the bench. Id psyche up for 20 mins often times. haha Fun times. Keep KILLING that shit brother!!

I agree completely brother!! I think that would help alot. Im still a little obsessed with testing my reps on 315 and 335 every week. I know if I max first Ill lose strength on the reps. I have made progress in one area of my routine however. I cut down my 275 warm-up set from 8 reps to 5. That seemed to help. Maybe eventually I can cut down that 225 set also, and see what happens. And thanX for the kind words brother!! In my mind Im still average! haha Seems everyone benches 315 or 400! I know its just mental, but it drives me. I also train in a gym that is juiced to the gills on bench day. Funny thing is, me and my training partner are still the main attraction, naturally too. Its become sort of a freak show. Lots of people coming up to ask questions, lots of these guys 250+. The manager telling me to come back more often because of the energy I generate or some shit. Saying Im the strongest in the gym, and shit like that. Its strange to be respected in a gym with so much steroid usage. Good to see the hard work starting to pay off though. I used to go to that gym and feel like shit. I avoided it for a while cuz it fucked with my head. Crazy thing is we use the bench in the back corner, but for every set people stop what theyre doing and stare. I originally picked the bench in the back to avoid that. Doesnt really bother me anymore. If anyone tries to instruct me and tell me Im doing something wrong, then things can get hostile. haha My training partner used to get that shit alot. He'd curse people out and shit and yell at them. Seem to be rambling on!! haha ThanX again!! KILL THAT SHIT BROTHER!!

ThanX for the constant encouragement brother!! Much appreciated!! Going to check your journal shortly also, and see how your progressing. I can taste that shit now!! It should be very shortly. TRAIN OR FUCKIN DIE!!

dam u, i just hit 385 myself 3 weeks ago... nice job. i guess i should start counting half reps as prs... or at least attempt them. i also want 405... maybe in a few months, youll prolly get it before me.

Awesome brother!! Sounds like your right ontop of 405! I wouldnt make a whole thread for a 1/2 rep PR, but it still counts in my journal. Helps me to make small improvements. I dont always increase a full rep at a time. It all adds up though! Never hurts to attempt the heavy weights. Im sure youd get it real soon if you trained for it specifically. My arms are pretty long too. Like a fucking monkey. I think thats why deadlifts and beastlifts went up so fast for me. Part of the reason anyway. Strangely enough Im still having alot of satisfaction repping the lighter weights like 315 and 335, so 405 is still not my main focus. I think Ill still hit it shortly though. Since I believe I already have the strength to press 405, Ill have to atleast maintain my strength to get it. Improving my strength would even be better, and thats always the goal. Go KILL that shit brother!!

You'll never see me move up less than 20lbs on bench. Any big muscle group i never go less than 20lb increments, more often than not im moving either 40, 50, or 90lb increments.

For example on flat bench:
135, 225, 275, 315, 365, 405, ect.

I dont think it is about the lb incrememt, more of a focus on percentage. Cuz a 90lb increase to me is like a third of my weight, but to you it is like a fifth!!!

But I se your point!!

peace

Notice that i only go up 90lbs at the very beginning, but when i get heavy i back off of that big of jump.

My point about the increments to me is critical. I mean look at all the guys in the gym that go up in 5 or 10lb increments and see how they remain the exact same (this goes for most, but definitely not everyone).

Ive never tried a percentage deal when it comes to my body weight of 260lbs or lifting.

Good shit! I didnt mean your routine progression though. I progress VERY similiar to you also, on my sets. I meant actual increases in your strength. I usually increase in very small increments, 5lbs at a time and even 1/2-3/4 reps. You dont use the 2.5's so was wondering how much you jump up usually, strength wise. KILL THAT SHIT!!

My strength often increases by a single rep each week. For example, the past few weeks on flat barbell bench ive progressed with 405 for 5 reps one week, 7 the next, and 8 this week.

My strength gains usually come when i am fucking around or change to incline first or by changing my set/rep scheme.

Never used the 2.5lbs. If i cant go up at least 10-20lbs, then im not ready to move up. I use to do 365, 385, and then 405, whereas now i go from 365 to 405. My next jump on bench will be to 425. I rarely go up in weight if i cant do the previous set for at least 5 reps. Once i know i can handle a weight for 5, then i know i can handle the next weight for 2-3reps to start.
