the bar fell on me

the gym staff oiled the bearings on all the straight bars :(

benching 185 and the fricking bar rotated, got off balance and bounced off my ribcage onto my stomach. Luckily i'm well padded down there so i benched it off my gut back onto the rack.
i took a quick look around but noone met my eyes.... well at least no one was laughing their ass off.
so i finished all my sets.

I'm still a bit confused at how exactly oiled bearings lead you to dropping the bar. Either way, sounds like you toughed it out like a warrior.

Glad you're okay and completed the workout, but, like Drew, I'm confused by how oiled bearings caused the problem. Wouldn't properly spinning ends prevent torque on the bar itself? Or did they do a half-assed job on the oiling so that the plates began to rotate then hit a sticking point?

thinking about it... it's either that my palm tilts up during the lift or my forearms aren't perfectly vertical. I've been ending the lift near the sternum instead of mid-chest the last few weeks.. it felt like when i pushed the weights stopped moving up and the bar spun forward and down my palm. I had a grip on it (regular grip not false grip) the whole way down but i couldn't control it.

I see that now.....

if the bar travels to the feet as you get close to failure....its a strength imbalance between the delts and the tris.....

Don't sweat it. I passed out benching before. Guess I took too deep a breath and held too long. :worried: We all have our moments.

what's the difference in regular grip and false grip? I know one must be where you don't wrap your thumb around but which is which?

False grip is thumb on same side as your fingers.

I use the suicide grip too. I've tried a few times to use regular grip but it hurts my wrists or elbow or something. Maybe I'm not doing it right. It just doesn't feel comfortable to me since I've been lifting that way for 20yrs.

I've never had a close call except back in the day when I was using the smitty for benching and I had difficulty rotating the bar back on the hooks. Damn smitty
