Weirdos. As a sect broken from the LDS (Mormon) church that originally practiced polygamy until 1890 when it was deemed illegal in the United States. They stopped the practice to follow the mandate of "Upholding the laws of the land".

These polygamists are a sect that didn't want to stop polygamy and formed the FLDS, or Fundamentalist church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

They are crazy.

Not the mormons though, they are really down to earth nice people that are normal in everyday life. They only have a few doctorinal differences between them and the Traditional Christianity formed in th 16th century. Mainly that God and Jesus are spearate beings, with flesh and blood. Knowing that christ ressurected and people saw and touched him is irrefutable evidence of this. Nicest people I know.

Longhorn still doesn't consider them Christians.

And longhorn is a baptist, I presume?

Anyone that professes Jesus Christ is their Savior is a Christian. No matter the doctorinal differences. There's nothing to argue that, no matter how strongly you feel otherwise. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is their Savior and that he died for us on the cross for our sins, and we will be saved by his grace. That's essentially what they believe. Tell me how that core belief is not Christian.

We had the debate last year. I'm an atheist and understand that Catholics, protestants and Mormons are all Christians. Some Christian sects don't consider Catholics "true" Christians.

I know what he is getting at though, and understand full well where people that think in such a maner are coming from.

Catholocism is sligthly different than "Christianity", but catholics are christian, because they believe in Jesus Christ as do Mormons.

Honestly, after studying the New Testament countless times and comparing doctorines, the Mormons are by far the most accurate on all aspects of the doctorines that are taught in the New Testament. The ones they also teach that are not found in the New Testament like temple rituals are supposed revelations from God restored (because they were lost) through a living prophet of god, Joseph Smith. I could right hundreds of pages on the subject, but don't want to nor do I need to.

I don't see what's so funny about kids being torn from their parents in custody battles.

I thought I saw a three-eyed kid on the news though. A victim of inbreeding.

I'm Baptist, but I still want a top hat w/ some of those "seeing stones".... LMAO

A lot of people really have a weird perception of Texas. It's shit like this that makes people from out of state think that I used to ride to school on a horse. I wish I was making that up.

how do the people of that sect suppoort themselves? how do they make money? how do the womenz get their hair like that? how do they decide which shade of blue dress they're going to wear on any given day? whats their view on the debacle known as Britney Spears' life? Who do othey support in the upcoming election?

Me too. Seer stones, or an Urim and Thumim, are talked about in the bible as well, Old teastament. Not an invention of the mind. It would be pretty sweet to have some. Any old top hat will do the trick I think.

What's this about Uma Thurman in the Old Testament?

so we should round up all the muslims too right/? i mean they are a culture you don't know, or if you do you don't agree with the way women are treated..

we should rescue all of them..

Hypocrisy understand yourself..

Umm, if the religion breaks the law, then yeah we would round them up. If muslims want to stone a chick for hanging out a dude who is not her husband, should we let them? Fuck no.
If some wackjobs in texas want to have 50 year old dudes marry 14 year olds do we need to let them? Nope.

Does anyone know what age these girls were being married-off? The youngest I've heard about was 16.

And what is the legal age for parental consent in TX? In Tennessee, I think the law said a girl could be married as young as 13 with both parent's permission at one point. Not sure what it is now.

But at any rate... Those guys are whack-o's, but Americans have a constitutionally-protected right to be whack-o's.

And all this bad-mouthing of polygamy in general... I'd never do it -- it seems wierd to me, but what's with all this negative press about it? Falva-flave can have 8 children from 7 different women and get gets his own reality TV show... hell, maybe the guys in Texas need and agent and a contract with MTV.

As you well know, I'm no fan of religion but isn't this case a bit of a disconnect and showing some religious persecution. These people are willingly at this compound and if child abuse had occurred then it should be pursued. However, the tip was anonymous and within a few days they couldn't identify the tipster? The most recent news I heard was the police think they have identified a third party that made this call and has made these calls before that led police on wild goose chases and she has been convicted of filing false police reports. So, now why are they doing DNA tests? It's obviously the polygamy and the fact they aren't mainstream Christians. Believing the universe was created in six days, a virgin birth and that Jesus died and was resurrected is just fine. However, believing you should have more than one wife.....that's just crazy talk.

They've all been born into it. I say let them be.

Java's right. It is religious persecution.
I don't believe what they believe, but I think they have the right to believe it.

Yup yup yup.

We have a constitutional right to be religious whack-o's, and while that doesn't mean we can legally blow-up the mall because of our religious beliefs, it does mean that religious freedom should be the 800 lb gorilla that gives federal and state laws a run for their money.

Jesus. Look at you losers. Acting like fucking 13 y/o girl's and keeping them slaves for life is wrong or something.

Sheesh!

If they found a pregnant (or even married) 13 year old, her existence (but not her face or name) would have been plastered on every single TV screen, newspaper, and magazine out there. Hell, even Guns & Ammo would read: "He fucked a 13 year old!".

So far, I haven't seen it. If all the state produces are a few married 17 year olds and maybe 1-2 married 16 year olds where both parents consented to the marriage then this is a government fuck-up.

First of all, I have NO problem with polygamy, to each his own.

The problem comes from the fact that:
1. It's no secret older men lust after younger women (how many of the men on EF fantasize about chickas who are just barely 18, if that?) These FLDS guys don't HAVE relationships with their wives, the possibility for exploitation is HUGE because their culture is very patriarchal, friendships and primary emotional relationships are within your own gender (let's be realistic, how are you supposed to have an emotional relationship with someone who is 20+ years younger than you in an arranged marriage situation, anyway?) The women bond to the women (their sister-wives) the men to the men. The husband is the provider/protector/leader of the household, not your friend, lover, confidant. Sex is supposed to be for the purposes of procreation, increasing the size of the flock. That was the main purpose behind the polygamy anyway, to increase the number of Mormons as fast as possible.

2. I do wonder how many of them are on welfare, let's face it, it is virtually impossible to support a "normal" family on ONE salary, much less 4 wives and 15 children (generally the women do not work) and the country ain't what it was 150+ years ago, the economy has changed. I'm not sure if you can be entirely self sufficient anymore. You need money for land taxes, you need money for utilities, you need money for gas to run the equipment.

3. I'm from Pennsylvania, and we have the Amish, Mennonites and Pennsylvania Dutch. These are religious groups that lives apart from society, but they give their kids a choice, when they turn 16, Amish teens are allowed to explore the customs of the outside "English" world before deciding whether to join the Amish church for life or leave the community altogether. I think if the FLDS gave their kids the same opportunity for choice things might be viewed differently by outsiders ... but I think the big fear is if they let the girls go they wouldn't come back, and that says something right there about the community.

Oh, this is supposed to be funny, right? Alright, WTF do you actually CALL those hair styles, anybody? I have to wonder if these women actually look in the mirror and go "that's HOT."

I agree, its just hard to fall-back on the "that's all they know" argument or the welfare argument -- I could pick a random housing project in any urban setting and make the same claims. So does that mean if I find a single, knocked-up 17 year old girl in a housing project where the mother either didn't supervise or even consented to the girl having sex that we should rush in there, knock down some walls and confiscate every kid from the housing project? Its clearly a "way of life" there too and god knows the welfare $$$ going into that place.

And yeah, those guys in TX are creepy, I'll give you that much.

If it's OKAY for them to fuck 16 y/o's - it should be OKAY for us to fuck 16 y/o's. There's a few men in prison right now that would like to be released.

I'd like to post a few hot pics of 16 y/o's. Wonder if the mods would allow it?

And beating, threatening, kicking the shit out of women from day one - and scaring them about the 'outside' for even leaving the compound - and forcing them to be slaves -- nah. That's just "religion" sir.

Islam > Satanism > American Sects.

lol @ nut gitters!!!

I think they are geniuses really, they want to have multiple women, and they do!

Nope, it's been over two weeks and nothing, they're giving them DNA tests to try to prove something. I want to keep children from being abused but I'm also a civil Libertarian and I do believe this case is being pursued so zealously because of religion/belief.
