Tell your regular doc about your HRT?

split endz

New member
I have mentioned hrt to my regular doc & he doesn't like the idea. Just wondering if most of you informed your md about your hrt practices.

I asked this same question on Dr. Johns board. Reactions were split. It's probably good you do tell him, but most will react like yours did... fear of the unknown.

I probably won't mention it unless asked. I rarely go in anyhow, and when I do he's never been able to help except to say "if it hurts when you do that, don't do that".

Why not mention it? If your test levels warrent TRT then it is a medical issue. Low test can lead to a wide range of serious medical issues.

DO NOT TRUST YOUR PHYSICIAN WITH CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION unless he's basically that best friend that you've always told everything to. Don't tell them you go to chiropractors or naturopaths. Don't ask them about vitamins. These judgmental as$ho1es are a bad combination of entitled, ignorant and powerful. If he charts your AAS use (you can't stop him) it will be there waiting for your next physician's perusal or when the ins. co. or potential employer makes you sign a release. It likely will color his judgment of you, and it is HIS opinion that counts in your relationship. And don't think for a minute that HIPAA keeps medical personnel from gossiping.

How do I know this? I work in a medical clinic. They understand power and money. If you have both you can maybe level with the guy; otherwise keep it to yourself.

If anything, ask for a free-testosterone test and maybe he'll put you on pharmaceutical testosterone. Just leave out your personal experimentations.

Thanks bor.. strong advice

I went to a regular doctor and asked if he would run a testosterone level check on me..

Told him I was tired and didn't feel like working out.. and I was anxious.. (all true, I had not been using or working out for over a year)

He checked my testosterone and it was high so no test for me.. I asked if he would refer me to an endocrinologist and he did..

The endocrinologist said testosterone may not be the best treatment for that.. (I told both docs I had used steroids and told them what and how much.)
I said "Well.. you are the second doctor that wont give it to me. I guess I'll have to go to a third.."
He had me wait and he ran a test on my testosterone levels and found it on the low side of normal so he scripted me Androgel 5g/day..
(which is not impressive, except that I am 19)

I went back for bloodwork and tested high on test levels but he let me keep my androgel..

next test I have a feeling I am going to test low....... :D
and try for a stronger dose, maybe injectable test cyp.

I have one Dr for HRT and he gets 100% truth.

I have another for flu shots and other traditional needs.
I tell her what she needs to know.

When I had my hip operation, I fasted off aas and HRT 6 weeks before so I could tell her and the surgeon the truth at the moment. I was super clean. They never asked about the past and I didn't tell.

Sounds like a great balance.

How can you get effective TRT or HRT if the doctor does not know all the facts?

The risks involved with this approach: "DO NOT TRUST YOUR PHYSICIAN WITH CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION" are not ones I am willing to take.

1crow is 100% correct about HIPAA. It has no teeth and is basically worthless from an information protection and privacy perspective.

This seems to be a rock and a hard place...
