Tech whizzes - is there a file setting to enable burning discs?

I have a whole crap load of video software on my laptop but something has set a setting somewhere that is disabling any ability to burn anything to a DVD. Yes I do have a DVD burner on the machine, I just can't seem to copy anything to it. My video software allows me to capture, mix & edit, essentially create a whole movie from scratch, but I've got some movies on my harddrive that I want to put on DVD. But I can't.

Is there a setting somewhere to enable burning of DVDs or copying to a disk drive?????
