no with these do you take them before you tan or will you get tan without going in the sun?

are there any serious sides?

Well, I'm not speaking from experience, but these pills are known to be liver toxic.

They can also give your hands and feet a very strange orange coloration. Just look at some Markus Ruhl pics.

Methoxsalen increases uv sensitivity of the skin, so you get a tan faster if you get exposed to uv rays. If you stay in the dark, you wont get a tan.
Its probably not carcinogenic but somewhat toxic to the liver.

what is the best tanning cream to use
the one with the tingle
or a dark bronzer

If I understand it correctly, Tingle factor will give you longer results & the bronzer will give you instant but, not lasting results. I wouldn't spend a shit load of money on them. The $20 - $30 ones work fine. I bought a $95 bottle last year & tried it (a friend got it for me for $35) I didn't have any better results than with the cheap shit. Actually I just make sure I keep my skin moist with lotion & baby oil & that seems to work just as good. However, to get a good tan you need to get some real sun when the opportunity is there. Most people just get orange/red looking.

Tanning pill side effects

The active ingredient in these pills is canthaxin (sp???), a dye that some believe can build up in the retina and cause impaired vision or even blindness. I looked into this myself a few months ago.

I'd stick to self-tanning creams or tanning salons, if I were you.
