Alaska salmon fishing looks like it may be on the back burner for a while.

The following pictures are of Theodore Winnen who is an airman for the 18th Fighter Squandron at Eielson Air Force base.

He was hunting deer on Hinchinbrook Island in Alaska . A large grizzly bear charged him from about 10 yards away. The guy unloaded a .338-caliber Winchester Magnum Semi-auto into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him.

It was over one thousand two hundred pounds, and 10' 6" from nose to tail. It's front claws were three to four inches long. It's not a world record though.

Think about it. This thing could eat your ass and want seconds!

Man, that last pic is disturbing! Could you imagine being alive while something like that is chewing on you piece by piece?

Is everything you see a conspiracy theory of some sort?

The pic is real.

Will you apologize now or later? MR. ATF MAN!

Actually the bear pictures are real.
Stats are true
The story is a bit off and the last meal one is a #1 hose job

Were you calling bullshit on the whole post?

The story I printed and the real story are only a few details apart.

OK you can have your job at the New York Times back!

Pretty amazing he was able to kill it before getting mauled. There are some real horror stories about bear attacks up here. He was quite lucky.

That is one of the largest I've seen.

With a grizzly, the minimum should be the .30-06. The various .300 and .338 magnums with high quality, controlled-expansion bullets are an even better choice. Lots of grizzly guides carry .338s and .375s.

Most hunting outfitters up here will tell parties "We suggest something in the .300 Magnum class, or larger" on grizzly hunts.

There is no such thing as overkill.

i live in alaska, and that story is most definately true, i remember it on the news. now the pic of the dead dude was bs. and its not even a record bear, it was only 10'6", kodiaks have been said to get up to 12'
