Systemic water retention from Yohimbe

stalker

Are there any tricks to shed the water from using large amounts of Yohimbe (both orally and topically) other than taking a week or two off? I want to use this stuff as close to my contest as possible, and was wondering whether a combination of Arimidex and the pre-show diuretics that I start 5 days out will be enough if I run the yohimbe to say within 72 hours of contest time.

I'm worried though because arimidex cures estrogen bloat while diuretics cause water loss through electrolyte manipulation and I don't know which method--if any of these--does yohimbe's water retention stem from?

water retention is unpredictable..though the use of arimidex with concurrent diuretic use may be sufficient to eliminate water that close to comp.. but cannot say for sure ..

People don't know the exact mechanism whereby yohimbine causes water retention, but it does, and the retention of sodium is involved. There are a lot of studies along the lines of this one:

Urol Int 1989;44(5):255-9

Effects of the alpha 2-adrenoceptor antagonists yohimbine and idazoxan on kidney function in intact and diabetes insipidus rats.

Farjam A, Greven J.

Abteilung Pharmakologie, Medizinische Fakultat der RWTH, Aachen, BRD.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of the alpha 2-adrenoceptor antagonists yohimbine and idazoxan on kidney function in intact Sprague-Dawley rats and in Brattleboro rats with familial hypothalamic diabetes insipidus. Both drugs, injected intravenously at 0.5 mg/kg, led to a marked decrease of urine flow, sodium, potassium and chloride excretion in both strains of rats. Glomerular filtration rate and effective renal plasma flow did not change significantly in either strain. The study demonstrates that the alpha 2-adrenoceptor antagonists induce an antidiuretic effect without changes in renal hemodynamics. Antidiuretic hormone does not play a role in yohimbine- or idazoxan-induced antidiuresis. The data suggest a role for alpha 2-adrenoceptors in the renal tubular handling of water and salt.

A diuretic would probably help, as long as it is not an OTC herbal diuretic. These alter antidiuretic hormone secretion without affecting sodium excretion, and this study suggests they wouldn't help.
