I picked up a half pound of tuna sashimi at a local Japanese market.

I pwned myself though 'cause I thought I had soy sauce at home, but didn't. It's still delicious though :p

lots of Japanese markets, but to be honest I wouldn't know what or how to get it if I bought it at a fish market. This was marked "for sashimi" and there were other cuts marked "for cooking"

damn i can get the all you can eat at the sushi bar for that much, and its the good stuff not the cheap crappy sushi

Fuck that would be nice, I usually spend over $50 when I go. No cheap places around denver that I am willing to eat at.

Sorry SoreArms, I thought you figured it out when you said Sashimi grade. Though out of desperation I ate the cooking kind raw, I was fine.

i dont know i think i am just turned off by the whole look of the sushi never tasted it because of the look

Its a slice of raw fish. It isn't like its the whole body with head, eyes & tail and you dive in with a fork. lol.

I guess I can understand.

yeah ive been to those expensive places before, and the sushi tastes the same at this one place i go to where its all you can eat
they usually put about 35 different types on this huge bar where about 5 chefs are making it non stop and i just fill my plate up and eat till they roll me out

OMG....they would have to chase me out with their knives. I usually end up spending about $35.00 minimum fro my portion.

lol, i was raised in a home with micro wave meals and simple spiceless meals...so a sushi roll doesnt do well in my eyes....i worked in a place that had a sushi "center" in it looked weird how they wrapped all kinds of different things in the middle.....maybe some day

I prefer sashimi..just the raw fish; Nothing like a good tuna or salmon with some wasabi... :verygood:
 
Fish sucks period, raw fish is for the birds, fuck all you trendy wannabees

Hey Hammy, you're in TN, right? Where the hell is this place you speak of?

Road trip in the plans...

For those that are squeamish of raw tuna right off the bat. I'd get a cooking grade steak, let it marinade in a little soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, then cook it in an oiled pan at a relatively high heat on each side (be careful when flipping, it'll flake unless the pan is uber-hot) and watch the side. Let it get cooked a decent amount on each side, but leave it nice and pink in the middle.

God, I gotta drive 50 miles for good sushi. It's so worth it, though. I'm just now shining up to Unagi.

as long as it's fresh is all good bro. I had sashimi of several white fishes before and they were all good. Which means, that the only requisite is that it has no bones (of course) it's relatively thick, so you can bite into something, and it's FRESH! (say no to thawed shit)

soja, wasabi, ginger, white wine

If you are not that much of a purist and like to try it a little bit different, have some avocado slices in between or some palm hearts (palmito), the mild flavor goes well with it
