Surround Sound Speakers

Does anyone know anything about setting up surround sound speakers? I have a set of 5.1 speakers with my new pc and I can't get them to work

I've got them all plugged in correctly (I think!) but there's only sound coming out of the centre speaker. Do I have to set them up on the computer at all?

First and foremost, are you testing it with surround sound media?

As an example, if I play a stereo program through my 7.1 system, most of the sound will come from the center speaker.

Your sound card will also have to be configured. Mine can use the connectors for any function (mike, line in , line out, left /right, center, etc). But you have to tell it this. The method is different for each sound cardf model, but it should be in the driver configuration.

Finally, try updating your sound card driver. Many times, a driver update (with the suppoting software, will fix many problems.
