Supplements, are they worth it? Nelson!

Besides the obvious,(creatine, ephedrine, yoh, gt) Are they're any supplements that actually help you with: Building muscle, recovery, energy, or getting cut?

The reason I called Nelson, was because I know he advocates supps that "free up test" or "stimulate the thyroid".

I've used Trib and Avena recently and i THINK they actually helped my desire without any chance in my lifestyle. Are there any studies that actually prove that these work?

So lets now discuss!!

Best supplement for gaining muscle, energy, recovery, and getting cut - vitamins and minerals.

Why? Modern food sources are depleted of natural levels of vitamins and minerals - essential components of our internal machinery. Sadly, if one wishes to eat with true balance, vitamin and mineral supplementation is required.

How are they applied optimaly? Well, seeking optimal application means being clinicaly assessed for your individual needs by a facility who knows what the hell they are doing - speciffically with athletes. No multi-vitamin/mineral supp fits all.

vitamins and minerals is a very general and broad statenment? for example, ive heard Vit C helps recovery. Therefoce should I encorporate MORE than usual into my diet than my "daily %", and how much more than every other vitamin?

Ive heard Vit B increases energy? how much? how does this apply this fatburning?

Anyone?

There are dozens of worthwhile supplements, too numerous to mention in one shot. I believe whatever trib does, avena sativa does much better as long a it contains the a good percentage of the active avenacosides.

For thyroid, thyrosine, 7 keto dhea, kelp and selenium head the list.

To many people fail to understand that vitamins and minerals work synergistically. For example, everyone knows that vitamin C helps you kick a cold, right? Guess what? Vitamin C won't do crap against a cold without sufficient levels of B6, B12, zinc, folic acid, and choline.

So, yes - when I talk vitamin and mineral supplementation overall, I am talking very broadly.

SM why not just take a large dose of all the vitamins?
A couple of reasons this is less than optimal.

* Too much of some vitamins or minerals wreak havoc with metabolism and kill performance or inhibit optimal physiological adaptation.

* To little of some compound will do the same.

* Because they work synergistically within the human organism, attention to vitamin and mineral ratios must be within certain tolerances in order for optimal function. An improper balance can inhibit adaptation and performance just as a deficit or surplus of compounds could.

* Physiological differences between persons means that some will naturally retain more of a given vitamin or mineral than others. In turn, some individuals need to ingest much more of a particular vitamin or mineral than others to maintain optimal levels of the particular compound.

Therefore, a blind handful of a given multi-vitamin/mineral complex is not going to be optimal for any one person.

However, I do agree that, in general, any one of us is likely to be facing a broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral deficit. There are some good multi-vitamin/mineral supplements on the market. It’s probably a safe bet that taking one will do more help then harm – but will never be optimal.
