As you said chin-ups allow more weight/reps than pull-ups but if my main concern is to work the back I'll use a pronated grip
As for DL I no longer use a mixed grip which put a lot of stress on my shoulders
Hook grip is okay with a clean stance but if I do a snatch stance I prefer a regular grip
I may start considering using some straps though...
