Sumo Deadlifts

Hey brianmincher,

Do feel like the bar is going to rip your nuts off when you lock out a conventional deadlift? I actually lift my nutsack up with the bar when I lock them out.
I'm thinking of switching to sumo myself. I plan on training them both about the same to see if it makes a difference.

Hell yes, someone who feels my pain. When I stand completely upright at the end of a deadlift, the bar is about 2 inches above my root. So I have to either hold the bar away from myself a little bit, or I end up scraping my nuts and dick with the bar as it passes. I have seen a lot of really good deadlifters that lock out a deadlift and the bar is just a little bit above their knees. Well my bar is locked out a little above my dick, and that does not make for a good deadlifter.

As I said above, I know I will never be a good deadlifter, but shit, I am not very happy with a deadlift 100 lbs less than my bench, or more. I would like to enter a 3 lift meet, but I would be getting my ass kicked by novice teen women in the 123 class, and that is just a little bit tough for this macho man to deal with. I currently compete bench only, and have considered scrapping the deadlift training altogether, but I am still experimenting and hope to stumble on to some revelation which will unlock whatever hidden deadlift power I might have. I thought that revelation might be sumo style, but after trying it a few times, I am far worse with it than conventional. Oh well, sucks to be me.

Sumo rocks!!

I used to love the conventional, but now I think it sucks. mY stance is so wide on sumos I can not perform them inside the rack. My toes point out and are at the most 1" from the plates.
 
I'd rather be deadlifting,

You are right. I switched to sumo, but this time wore my Z-suit and set a 40 pound P.R. the first time I tried it. I will be doing this from now on.
