Summer Job

I get out of school in a bit over a month and I'm going to need to find a job for the summer. Do you guys have any suggestions where I should apply for a job? Where could I make the most money (strong male). Thanks

construction can pay alright but it sucks,id try and get a job in the field you want to work in ,good experience

I'm not into construction.
My main thing is selling equipment (not going into specifics) and I deal with a lot of contractors who work in Government buildings so every 6 months we have to go to the police station and get our certificates which then gets us our photo ID to get into these buildings.

I also do some contract and sub-contract work myself.

dont wait man the time is now.
you know there are a ton of schools in the GTA and those kids ALL want jobs.

are you a hard worker? show up on time? every single shift?

or lazy?
like to fuck the dog and sell the pups?
lots of DF jobs around too for $8.00

I work as a glazier during most of my summers (similiar to construction but installing windows) for 10/hr US for my first 2 summers, than as a painter w/ the same pay (houses). After that I found a job that related to my major. You should find a job as related to your major as soon as possible.
What are you? Criminalogy? Get a job as a security guard or personal security if possble.

I'm sure it would be easy to get a job as a bouncer as well.

No matter what you do later in life, I suggest working in construction or some other "hard work" job. You need the experience of working hard and busting your ass to teach you what physical hard work is about. I've worked in that field for many years and it has taught me a lot about myself and the people around me.

If you work in an office or selling supps, you'll never know some things thAt you may have learned with a construction job. You'll appreciate life and your future job that much more. Do it.

Plus, you'll get some good money doing it, and you'll learn a good trade or two. It can help you later in life when you have a naggin wife telling you to fix this and that in your own home.

good luck

Being a Lifeguard is an awesome relatively high paying Summer job unless you are fat and or can't swim.

Too bad you're a Canadian.

Maybe you could hunt baby seals ?

Masonry. Be a hod carrier. Then you can truley be called a hoddy only it means something else.

But being a sparky (Electrician) can take you pretty far in life. One thing you canucks do have that I think is great is an awesome apprenticeship training program in construction.

A Good superintendant in the US easily can make $80- $100+K a yearas a commercial construction super

thought you were college educated? $8 an hour w/ a college education?? pathetic

What do you like doing? Or what do you enjoy doing?? :)

In about a week I'll be looking at a job at a Veterinary Clinic. I love animals so I figured this would be great for a first job. I always say first think of things you like doing because you wouldn't want to be miserable at your job - that would totally suck.

Hey, I don't want to do hard labour, one because I already have, I know how to build things as well (carpentry) I've shingled houses and stuff. What kind of training does a lifeguard need?

red cross life guard cert...pretty easy to do....takes a few weeks, usually one or 2 nights a week.of course you need to know how to swim already.

beach lifeguarding is a little more involved

How well do I have to be able to swim?

Am I understanding this correctly. You are age 23 and are now getting your first job???

btw there is a down side to that. I am a huge lover of animals myself. Unfortunately there is a very harsh reality that some animals will be euthanized. there is always a downside but if you can look at how many animals that were helped there to get over that then that will help to overlook that.

Yup - 22, actually. Never worked before because I volunteered WAY TOO MUCH and did a lot of activities through school - attending medicine internships out of state, traveling for sports teams, etc. Never had time to work because of my hectic schedule and luckily through college, I didn't have to work so I could completely focus on my schooling. :) I'm not worried at all - my crudentials are fantastic.

I'm excited to start - I work until the fall. Once I start grad school that is all I will be focusing on because it's extremely demanding... well, the program I am in at least.

well....pretty well i would say. you need to be able to perform the basic strokes, and tread water for a long time. doggy paddling around isn't gonna cut it. I had teken swim lessons from the time I was like 7 or 8, so it was no big deal for me

you have to have a license to be a lifeguard.. at least in the america's but we r a normal country, unlike canada

lol. Whoopsy typo. I meant credentials. My spelling for the most part is fine. Couldn't hurt to improve and it will. :) I remember how much my brother's language/vocabulary changed once he started law school. Crazy.

Generally speaking

Swim like 50 yards in < 30 seconds.
Tread water for like 20 minutes or so
Various medical and rescue techniques
Run a certain timed 100 yrd dash
Vision requirements

And for the first time ever I gave you green k instead of red. Lets see how long that lasts!

If you were serious about finding a job, (something that you would be spending a good portion of your life doing) - would you come "here" for all your answers and expect to find that job?

Would you actually be naive enough to expect the thread to stay "serious"???

Me either..............take that green back LOL

Didn't pay much but I was told that if I am old enough to drive I am old enough to work and pay for it, insurance and gas!!

I' sad to say this but as somebody who has been hiring and interviewing since 1990
I can tell you that 95% of Canadians 2nd 3rd generation etc... are LAZY!

We/They don't like hard work, don't want to start at the bottom, dont show up every day, call in sick a lot, and last but not least Canadians love to BRAG about how little we do at work and how much we get paid to do it.+

The convo goes like this:

"Ha-ha I was on line all day surfing for info about testosterone and anavar haha and I get paid $17.00/hour haha hehe hoho, lets go get a large double double...my boss is so dumb haha I do fuckall all day"

You need to work on your vocabularly. You swear way too much. And if you're trying to make me feel bad about not working until now, you don't. I've probably had more experience doing things than a lot of people my age.. it's just that I VOLUNTEERED.

P.S. You seem like a pretty close-minded business owner. If you saw a person who you could train that had potential yet who never had a job, you wouldn't hire them? Sure there's great things about having had numerous jobs but that doesn't mean a person who hasn't had a "job," isn't capable.

All that matters in life is "Life-Experience".............*period*

Stop defending yourself, - it underminds all you've accomplished........

IMO defending yourself does not in any way undermine what you have accomplished.

I don't like others trying to put me down when they really have no idea what they're talking about.

If you "truly" believed in yourself and your "arena", you wouldn't be so hostile and defensive.

Take a deep breath

I am not putting you down the fact that you volunteered shows a good character trait that you care. However, not always is this true but I would find it a little alarming to see a resume with nothing on it as far as a job is concerned and quite frankly if it boiled down to 2 people one with a work history and straight A's or one with an o.k. to good GPA with work experience I would go wityh he work experience siomply because that would show me that that person was capable of doing many things at the same time and juggling his/her schedules to accomplish everything. Again not saying you are not its just an impression I would get. I would hear even if it were wrong, "I was spoon fed a lot in life and that I expect that I deserve to be spoonfed" from someone who did not have a work history.

I completely hear/understand your points and I agree that people who have previous work experience tend to have an upper step in the "work field." However, as you said, this isn't always true. I got accepted into a VERY prestigious Doctorate program here in Chicago where your resume was of utmost importance. While I haven't had a "real," job so to speak, I have had similar experiences. To name one, because I trained in martial arts for 9 yrs, I trained children with disabilities, and that's pretty much it as far as a "job.". So in the work aspect, sure, I haven't had much experience except for this but I assure you that there are other important factors which would make me perfectly capable of doing what anyone else can do. Not to mention that in the future, I have no doubt in my mind I will not be harmed like this. And my attitude is not that I expect to be "spoon fed." I work very hard for what I do and want to accomplish.

I really hate the truth? Lmao. What truth are you talking about? Are you trying to tell me I am not as capable as others? For your information, for what I WANT TO DO (career wise) all my previous experience is perfectly applicable. I don't want to be a business owner or work in the "business," field. For what I want to pursue (clinical Psychologist) all my volunteer experience is perfectly legit and THAT truth was answered when I got accepted into a Doctorate program at a school where 450 apply and they accept less than 50 people.

Sorry did you say something? :mix:

Don't even bother with heavy_duty. If he disagrees with someone/something all he does is either put you down or make sarcastic remarks instead of being a respectful human being and having a normal conversation and seeing others point of view.

I find the best summer job is being really, really ridiculously good looking. But I don't think you have what it takes to cut it in my field YG.
