sounds to me like it is all fucked up.
seriously though, that sounds like one of two things.
1) the drivers for the video card aren't happy - get the newest ones.
or
2) the video card is hot and therefore not happy.
it kind of sounds like the latter since it builds up over time.
it also sounds like maybe running out of ram, but most new systems come with a lot nowadays...
in the end, I would guess that there is a driver that isn't happy - that is usually the case with all of the new systems, they get installed with their default drivers and there are newer ones out there that fix many of the issues.
I could like and say that I know something better than that and will only tell you for hot nekkid pics, but the honest to god truth is that I don't know what the fuck is up with your system.
if you don't get it fixed in a few days, I'll e-mail you some close up pictures of my balls and that will at least give you something to look at while you reboot.

Do you have a warrantee on it?
Do you clean your cookies, clutter files, broken shortcuts etc....
If this is foreign to you, look up WINCLEANER2002 for windows. It is a program you can run to rid your computer of all the shit. I use it once a week on this one here @ work and @ my computers @ home.
What model do you have? Pentium or no? I have some knoledge so I can try to help you. Good luck.

I wouldn't consider myself a "computer nerd" but I am able to repair and fix my own problems. I've been building my own systems since I was 13 and compared to my friends who have always gone store bought I've had very few problems.
Not to mention the price/performance ratio of what one buys from say Dell, or what one builds isn't even comparable.

A quick story.
A long time ago I went to this wedding for friend of mine I worked with. One of his friends was taking pictures from the side of the church and he told him that the pictures turned out ok, except that most of them had this guys big old head in them.
