Successful life without college???

Academia brings a studied perspective one cannot get in the real world. For instance, will you ever study Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace" unless you do it in school? Likely you won't. Will you ever study Descartes in the real world? Likely you won't. Academia will bring you the unexposed......

Don't listen to Matt_the_Windbag,

He's a blow hard and doesn't know jack shit about the real world.

It's very competitive out in the real world. If you want to have an edge, you must have at least a bachelor's degree. If you're in a trade, then go to trade school and become certified.

In addition, college gives you an experience that will forever change you as a person. You'll most likely be much better rounded and can answer most questions on "Weakest Link."

Matt - As usual, I think your advice sucks donkey dick. For every Bill Gates you cite, I can give you 10 million drop outs that aren't do shit with their lives.

If your need is money, then of course you can avoid school........But if you want to get "smarter" then try school.....

Will you ever need "War and Peace" in the real world? Nah. If I want to get smarter I'll pick up a book and read.

To each his own.

Of course you won't read "War and Peace" in the real world----that's precisely the problem. There's alot of good ideas and observations existing in academia that you do not find in the real world.

Its all about what you want, of course....

L-

I fucked off for four years in college and stole my degree when no one was looking. The only reason I passed some of my classes was because I played basketball. I didn't even attend 50% of class. It was boring and useless.

Yet I earn almost twice as much as you did when you were a highly educated CPA. I own a small consulting company, a web based placement company, a few pieces of real estate, and oh yeah my other job. Money isn't the only defintion of success, but I have had success finding it without using my degree.

I'm working on something that could generate millions a year - oddly I was considering asking for your advice (in return for a fair payment of course) but I'll look elsewhere.

I could have gone farther sooner, but college blinded my vision and it didn't come back until three years afterward.

Why are you such a hater?

The question should be whether or not an individual will be successful without college. If someone is successful with college, they most likely would be if they didnt go and vice versa. Its more subjective to the individual than a blanket question.

Honestly, I'm very happy that you've multiple successful business enterprises. You're achieved much. I wonder how much of it you would have achieved had you not gone to college. Therefore, you of all people, should not be telling our friend MaGilicuti that college teaches you to aspire to mediocrity. Did you become mediocre? I doubt it.

Is Ryan mediocre? No. Am I? Well, I don't think so. Neither are any of my friends, all of whom attended college.

I'm not a hater. You know that.
