Substitute for potato chips

Madd Hatter

New member
Ok, so it's finally dawned on me, perhaps one reason I can't shake my gut is because my nightly dinner is a turkey sub, water, and Lays regular potato chips. I thought about switching to Baked Lays, but they're expensive as hell and taste like crap. So I was just wondering if any of you guys eat regular potato chips, or if you could suggest something to substitute with for a meal with a sub.

I dont touch the stuff. I'd rather have a turkey sandwich on whole wheat, a banana and water. Chips are high in fat, calories and carbs. You might want to replace it with low sodium crackers which have less taste than Baked Lays chips. For some reason i just have it in my head that this type of stuff cannot be eaten on a regular basis. If you train hard and have the proper diet to go with it then there is no room in your diet for chips. Your better off eating 2 turkey subs than eating 1 sub and chips.

If you're trying to lose that gut, you need to stay out of Subway entirely, despite what their ads say. If you must eat there, the only other thing I could think of that they offer to eat with your sub would be a diet soda, nothing else.

I'm with gymtime on this one!! It might sound extreme but if you really want to lose that gut - you've got to be brutally strict with the diet....unless you've been blessed with a crazy metabolism there's just no way you can get away with eating processed snack foods (even the baked variety!!)...

After awhile you won't miss that stuff anyway - just hang in there and visualize those abs rippling as you stroll down the beach....or whatever other fantasy you prefer....:D

high GI carbs for a meal at night ! not if you want to lose the gut. stick to fibrous (veggies) carbs at nigh or a very low GI fruit like apples.

You've got to stop eating chips if you want to lose the gut.

Also if you must have a sub, you're much better off making your own sub using lean breast meat and less fatty spreads, etc.

My personal replacement for Chips are Pork Rinds.

80 Calories, 7 grams of Protein, Carb free, and only 5 grams of fat :)

i was in mysupplement store and found out there was a whole grocery line dedicated to low cab groceries its called keto
they have chips low in carbs high in protien

its called sacrafice. u wann get lean u have to know that achieving goals take sacrafice. cut out the chips. enjoy the sub and less calories

Chips are super good tasting, but super bad for you. A bag has what... 20 grams of saturated fat?
When I NEED something crunchy I go for low fat pretzels (Old Dutch Thins in Canada) - 30 pretzels is only 100 cal. Tons of Sodium though. Or I go for Orvilles light popcorn.
I like those baked lays, they kinda taste like pringles.

it's not just that fact that the fat is saturated it's the type of saturated fats. A constant intake of hydrogenated oils and trans fatty acids are shown in research studies show conclusively that they cause non-insulin dependent type II diabetes, or hyperinsulinemia. This is a disease which can eventually burn out the pancreas and cause insulin dependent diabetes. These changed molecular oils dramatically increase the risk of coronary heart disease, breast cancer, other types of cancers and auto immune diseases

Ok, how bout Vanilla Wafers? Can I eat those you bastards? :)
I was looking at the panel, and the seem a lot healthier. They'll run me a little more, but they were the only thing I could find at the store that I could stomach that was better than chips.

So after all those replies, you've concluded that Vanilla Wafers are an acceptable alternative to potato chips? Good luck on that gut my friend.

Look, I'm not gonna eat rice cakes and drink prune juice because they're the best thing for me. I've sacrificed a lot to try to keep in decent shape. I could be eating a frozen pizza and having a Coke every night for dinner. I may still end up going with Baked Lays, which are one step above paper. But you only live once, and there's a fine line between sensible eating and TORTURE, and I'm not going to cross it. I suppose you're saying nilla wafers are bad huh? It seems to me they have less sodium and fat, but must not be acceptable levels? Shit.

That is all entirely up to you. Your physical gains are in direct proportion to how much effort you are willing to put forth to get them. You asked for diet information. I and some others from this board gave it to you. You don't like what you hear? That's pretty much tough shit. And yes, vanilla wafers are cookies. They are loaded with sugar. You're better off with the potato chips.

Torture? OUCH man lol. I've never tried low fat, but i love low carbing.

Try the Pork Rinds. Even with 5g of fat thats still less than chips, not to mention no carbs and NO Hydrogenated Oils!

Well, I got me some animal crackers now too (I can hear the guffaws). I swear, there's no way these things can be that bad for me, they've got to be better than my other options. There's no sat. fat, less sodium, and they taste right between cardboard and baked lays.

what about chcocolate chip cookies??? I NEED some kind of chocolate after my dinner. I only weigh 168 on a 5'10" frame and recently put on 13 pounds. I've been bulking for the past month and it worked but I'm starting to eat alot of fatty foods, and even though I'm gaining muscle i'm gaining fat too. Is there any good plans out there for bulking without too much fat or is the fat ok when bulking? I've never been able to gain weight until this past month!!!

I am also 5'10"and,the wt. your at , I was for years then I thought if I eat a lot and a lot of foods high in fats that I could gain and I did...fat.in the last few years I have gone from there to 210 to now 185 and much leaner than before.eating right hi protine lots of sleep. lots of water to flush toxins that the intake of the protine will push through the system.regular workouts.really seem to help as well although this year it has been hard for me to get in as much time as I would like not living near my gym(I moved across town).I have found that my diet helps me keep in shape more than I would have thought.I still am not where I want to be size wise but I have had a few set backs over the years.but I will not be stopped.this year I gained one inch on my arms without as much work as in the past.supps.help too.as yet I have not started to juice yet but when I have the right guide I will.untill then I will keep on the slow yet steady natural road .the" fit for life" book helped me rethink how I eat.

go with the WOW chips ith Olean, it just goes staight through your system
in my opinion, lose the chip mantality

I never understood, i'd rather have peanut butter over a multigrain bagel anyday over chips or chocolate.
