...im totally off aas right now...eventually in a few months will start up with a whole new game plan but for right now i got a small question....i like to have one or 2 chews a day. aside from the obvious mouth cancer -related issues im wondering if anyone could tell me if nicotine can have any effect on the muscle rebuilding process..ive googled it and found nothing. since im off gear im upping the protein, aminos and supps such as creatine and trying to hang onto some strength and muscle. im a stickler for little things and im just wondering if you could answer this question. does nicotine fuck up recovery or muscle function? thanks.

Nicotine is structurally similar to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is important for the parasympathetic nervous system. Recent studies have also found that it is the primary neurotransmitter involved in facilitating muscle memory-the process of creating and remembering muscular contraction through repetitive stimulation of motor neurons.

Once muscle memory is created and retained, there is no longer need to actively think about the movement and this frees up capacity for other activities. This is why one who has trained with weights for several years is able to rebound from a long layoff much faster than someone in their first few years of training.

Theoretically, the nicotine will compete with the acetylcholine along this muscle memory pathway and make it less effective. Thus, the muscle becomes "dumber" and it will take longer to develop this circuit, and subsequently it will take longer for a person to get back into shape after taking a lay-off. This last part is still subject to study and remains anecdotal.

thanks for the post i never saw that. ive always chewed once or twice a night because i dont drink. its my way of relaxation after a long day. to me it makes more sense that nicotine would not be as harmful as alcohol....and most guys i know that drink are still pretty damn built guys.

Seriously MS, this is all pretty much mind-candy for mental masturbation. Practically speaking, I don't see any problem with you having an occasional chew and you are right, it is far less harmful than a Friday night 12-pack.
