Study Manual

Would NFPT Personal Trainer Manual (Its free) be good enough for me to study for the ACE so i can avoid buying the book? Or would the Tests be alot different?

Some would probably be similar, but they have different specialities. I couldn't get read the NSCA's and transfer all that to the ACSM's test for example

I think most study materials are designed for that particular exam, although I used the National Health Educators materials to study for my American College of Sports Medicine exam because they were more thorough along the lines of pulmonary physiology. I've never seen the NFPT materials but you should be o.k.

uh, i don't think doing this would be in your best interest.

would you rather spend the $30-$100 and pass the exam, or would you 'save' that money and end up failing a $200 exam and having to take it again for $150.

not worth it, imo.

if you are that concerned, i suggest you try craigslist and/or ebay to buy a used copy.

I've taken both and they are incredibly different. Terminology, definitions, practice, etc. is almost always program-specific. The ACE manual dwarfs the NFPT guide and it's good to know the ins and outs of it before you sit for the exam. ACSM or NCSA cert might let you be able to do what you're suggesting, but NFPT just doesn't cover alot of what ACE wants to know. Hope this helps.
