stripping weights

The gym I go to insist that all bars are stripped when finished. I was called out for leaving a #45 on each side of the bar on the bench. My issue is that there are 3 benches and this bench was the only one with weights on the bar. The shrug machine uses plates and everybody and their mom would load 2 #45's, but they insist on unloading it. I could be considered lazy, but I find stripping these bars down useless.

It's BASIC gym etiquette. Yes, there will be times when it might not be necessary. Do it anyway.

Remember that not all users want to start their set off with 135#. While insisting that ALL weight be removed from the bars it creates an consistant starting point for all . You would not want to strip off 800 # from the leg press that someone left before you got there. I agree, Its just courtesy. P.S This is a very common rule in almost any Gym

stripped weights

ST8K LOVER how many benches to you think people need that the bar is stripped. Y LIFTER what are you typing about.

I have a bad habit of matching up my stripped weights to even pairs around the gym..I hate to see a lone plate on the tree..so i find another of equal weight to hang with it

That's a rule in my garage as well.

Put everything back where you got it. It's just common courtesy.

I've been known to track someone down who left a bunch of plates and ask them to come back and strip them. They always come back and do it. LOL I guess they can't resist my Mom/Head LIbrarian/Worst NIghtmare Teacher stare. Anyway, why should I do their work for them?

I am only 5'5" and my upper body's not that strong (yet). It's especially annoying when someone leaves 45s up high in the power rack: too heavy for me to move the bar down to get at the plates easily and too high for me to easily get the plates off.

Sometimes I don't feel like stripping my weights after a couple hard sets, but I do it because that's the way I like to find it for myself.

It's just common courtesy.

4everhung, I do the same thing.

Strip the bars. Its the polite thing to do. Take all the weight off. It doesnt take much time, it wont hinder your workout at all. If you are too lazy to do that, you are too lazy to be in the gym.

7of9, If this simple act of courtesy is too much to ask of you, perhaps you should go to your local sporting goods dealer and purchase your own weight rack. Then you can leave it loaded up with any amount of weight you want. Did you not read the rules of the gym when you joined? Your probably the same guy that wont let merging traffic "cut in line:, or opn the door for a pregnant woman. Courtesy Man, Learn IT!

Peace:fro:

i agree, what a stupid thing to have a peeve about...everyone knows thats basic gym behavior. Quit bein a lazy ass and pull off your weights....
