A little off topic, but... I saw the strangest thing on WSM qualifier show tonight- reruns from last year's comp. They were giving people's stats and they get to this guy who looks like he's maybe 185 lbs. and they say that he's 5'8", and I'm thinking "Damn! I'll bet he does weigh under 200.." Nope! They list his weight at 260! Upon closer inspection I see that he has very average looking long arms and is small through the traps and shoulders. When you could see his torso, he was kinda barrel chested. And, his legs were average. I guess you can hide a lot of weight in the torso when your arms are smallish. Still, it was almost inconceivable that this guy would weigh any more than 200 lbs.!
I know this all sounds pretty random. It got me thinking about what makes a man 'look' muscular and powerful. And, I had to come back to what one of my old classmates told me, "Just build huge traps and shoulders and you'll always look awesome!" Of course, there is more to it than that- like when you are standing next to a 300 lb freak you are going to look tiny. But, he sure had a point. So, for us bodybuilders, we can't forget the importance of huge traps and cannonball shoulders!
