hey guys, just looking for some advice...i went to the doctor about a month ago cuz my shoulder was killing me! The doc said i strained my trap, and it should heal soon. Its been months and i cant do shit in the gym...have to use machines for everything cuz my right arm is so weak i can barely lift it over my head....anyone have any experience with strained/torn muscles? is there anything i can do to help it heal?

well what has happened is at the site of the injury it never healed, what you should do is ice it for 20 minutes 8 times a day for 24 hours, then after the first icing for 24 hours then rotate it from ice to heat 20 ice 20 heat, do this atleast 6 or more times in one day, then repeat this everyday, and take plenty of ibuprofein to kill inflamation around the injury. YOu could also shoot a shitload of eq or deca in there, like 1000 mg's.......to help.....rest it bro, when it gets better be sure to do four exercises back to back for the rotator cuff in a warm up before lifting, these can be found in literature..................dmso will kill inflamation also!

also every upper body exercise you do is going to involve the trap in some way, whether its curls, bench, back all that puts pressure on the trap go real light til it heals, rest for atleast a week also with treatments of ice and heat!

ice and ibuprofen (800 mg every 6 hours whether it hurts or not)

IMO the fastest way to heal is to do nothing until the pain is gone. then start back slow and build up. there will be some pain when getting back to it. i'm not sure of how long though. but that's not the answer most ppl want to hear.

if you don't want to take the time off, go light. very light. but you will increase your recovery time.

didn't your doctor give you any advice? usually they tell you to take X amount of time off and go easy when you return.

deep tissue massage is usually benificial. Serious trama to any muscle causes a build up of adhesions (scar tissue) that need to be throughly broken up before the muscle can fully heal. Massage will expedite this process. Plus it feels really good.
