I know we got a shitload of cat owners on this site so post up.

My fuckin cats got the stinkiest damn shit on earth. The room with the catbox will stink the day after I change it. I use the deodorized litter, air fresheners, even tried changing it food. Oh and that soft food in a can, wheeeew. Gas like a mofo.

What is the best way to prevent this?

best litter or air fresheners also?


Also, anyone elses cat come sit on their lap right before they fart?

it's pricey, but 1 bag lasts a month. well worth it. i guess the cat gets about a cup or so of dry food a day. i get the good Purina One stuff (i think that's what it's called). makes his coat real shiney.

Once a week? Dude, cats are so finicky and clean, they'll pee on your furniture if it's not clean enough for them. My friends cat was so damn anal (no pun intended) if her box wasn't clean enough for her, she would crap in a certain corner of the house.

Yea once a week is too long. You should clean it every few days. Try putting some baking soda or Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer in with the litter.

Pony up for the self-cleaning litterbox. You can get them for around $80 shipped last time I checked on ebay. You might be able to get a refurbished one for $50. It's the best move I've ever made in the realm of cat maintenance. Mine used to shit in my dryer and pee on my clothes because I used to not clean the box as often as they'd like me to. I'll be damned if anyone other than me is gonna shit in my dryer. Get the box and then pay for the Fresh Step scoopable litter like jerk said that absorbs the odor. That shit smells so good I'm even taking dumps in the litterbox, covering it up with my feet and then yelling for no reason.

I agree....clean the box(es) every couple days. I have tried EVERY litter around, and I think that Tidy Cats for Multiple cats CLUMPING litter works the best. It's super easy to clean out and keeps the smell under control...

My cats get Science Diet dry food, 'bout 1/4-1/2 cup a day. It stinks less than the grocery store brands when it comes out the other side.

Crystal litter is like a revelation for the first week, but then the crystals at the bottom go sour in a hurry when they get saturated with urine. I prefer one of the blends of crystal and regular scoopable litter, like Tidy Cats Crystals Blend. There's a product you can get at the pet store called "Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment" that you can sprinkle on the litter that will help control the stench.
