Stiff Leg deadlift

Tater Salad

New member
I was at the gym the other day doing stiff leg deadlifts. Legs straight, knees only slightly bent, bending at the waist, grabbing the barbell and returning to standing position. (Yeah I know, I'm sure you guys all know that) Anyway, I was doing sets of 8 at 275 lbs. Some guy who looked like he knew what the hell he was talking about came over and said that I was doing too much weight. If I wanted to do that much weight I should do more of a squat type lift using the legs a lot more. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of stiff leg dead lifts? Or are people not doing those anymore? Did I miss the memo?

no, you're doing them right. just make sure you not rounding your lower back, and you're good to go.
