steroids....soon obsolete?

No, it'll take another generation or two.

New discoveries are made everyday, things take forever to be implemented - just look at FDA controlled processes, the moral issues with genetic engineering that will ultimately hinder its success.

We can be optimistic but lets be realistic.

Well...isn't AICAR gene therapy? Won't take a generation or two for that to hit the streets....you can already purchase for research. Gene therapy will soon be mainstream.

LOL...........come on................they are using it quite effectively on Star Trek, Stargate SG-1 and many other shows on the Sci-fi Channel right now. :)

The time between proof of concept to commercialization = teh suck.

It always costs 10 times too much and takes 5 times too long.

Unless it's a drug, then it takes 50 times too much and 20 times too long.

And some never even make it. I've watched non-invasive continuous blood pressure management eat at least $120M in investor capital. I've watched non-invasive blood glucose monitoring eat well over $250M. Non-contact apnea monitoring has probably eaten a good 60$-100$M too.

Fun fun fun!

Not sure how this applies to what I said.

Oh, I made the mental jump. I was thinking about all the creative ideas those shows have and was thinking about the difference between a neat idea and developing its proof of concept. A lot of inventors do proof of concept models on the benchtop. Well that got me thinking about how much going from the first proof of concept to productization sucks.

I'll confess, I was just stitting here waxing philosophically about "Star-Trek" ideas, because both non-invasive continuous BP measurement and non-invasive glucose monitoring were pitched as "Star-Trek" ideas when they tried to raise money for it.

Mental jump to 'warp'.....but I get you and agree.

I was not aware of that.

I used to evaluate these train-wreck investments and try to salvage any viable pieces of the companies. A lot of times, there was a decent arm of the company that got wrecked by all the overspending in R&D that didn't pan-out.

People were living 3-400 years, even I think it was 959 years old was the oldest living man , Methusela(sp) thousands of years ago if you read the bible. :)
Gene therapy is pretty interesting. how come someone hasn't tried the AICAR? I double dog dare someone... I guess it's inevitable just like the one world gov't. That should be interesting...
