Stereotypes about big people

Do you think most people think a muscular man is less smart, more ill mannered, more agressive, less sophisticated than the same man more slim?

Is it because of their actual size, or because the way their clothes fit, or because they seem less careful and controlled(elephant in the porcelain closet effect) or because they may waddle, or stick their arms out?

Do you find when you go to a party or diner people think your security or something and not a guest and dont take you serious?

I`m talking about the 2 exact same people, except one with 50 lbs extra muscle.

If so, how hard or easy do you find this stereotype to break? For the big guys out there who take not only their body but also their mind serious, do you find you can connect to people as well as when you were small, or are you stuck in the teddy bear/protector/berserker box?

Yes, you get labelled with the "musclehead" stereotype. The best way to break out of the stereotype is to engage in intelligent/insightful conversation. I don't know how many people have told me in a very polite way, " I wouldn't have imagined you were so smart."

A couple years ago, shortly after my divorce, I was out with a friend at a bar that is near the university and popular with law students. We were talking to two first years in their second semester of law school and I was totally picking up the "I'm superior to you vibe." This was roughly two minutes into the conversation and nothing about my career or education had been mentioned. The conversation was mainly small talk. I started asking them about law school and eventually it got to the point where they started discussing some legal theory from their contracts class. At that point she said something to the effect, "we should stop talking about that, I don't twant to bore you." I told them to go on as I have an interest in the law. Right after that I caught her completely misinterpreting a case I actually remebered from law school. At that point I proceeded to own her ass in a short debate and gave her a nice little remedial lecture. The look on her face was priceless.

Yes- you get the stereotype. People think you're just a big dumb jock basically (even if you don't play sports)

I think it's fucking hilarious though in my case as i was a 160lb straight A student in high school. It's amazing seeing the contrast between what people thought about me in high school with what people think about me now- first impression wise.

I think the worse stereotype for *cough* "muscleheads" would be the vain and selfish one.

DOH! Wait that's true!

As I have said before... EF shatters this myth.
Everyone here is jacked as fuck, juiced to the gills and pullin' $300k+.

Damn straight. Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go drive around in my Mosler Photon.

Plus the spelling here is impeccable.

One glance at EF and all sterotypes would be dispeled.

Not to mention the complete lack of angry and/or women hating posts.

EF (the most hard-core, controversial fitness site on the internet) dispells all myths and brings truth and light to the dark reaches of the bodybuilding world.

I had to go look that shit up on google. Had no clue what a mosler photon was. After looking at it, I still find myself not caring.

:lmao:

I think the real name of it is a Mosler MT900 Photon. There is a street legal model out now, sans Photon, I believe.

Nothing is more refreshing and cool than meeting a Huge MOFO and have him be a quite, mild mannered polite person.

Perhaps Mr. lifter meant quite mild mannered, and just misplaced the comma?

No, I'll admit to that one being a spelling snafu..

I just ordered "Hooked on Phonics" tapes..

thanks

I'm not sure that the EF crowd is big but it fits the bodybuilding stereotypes quite well. I hang arouind because it is the best damned freak show I know of.

It is rare to meet a skilled professional person who is also jacked. Most jacked people are not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Shoot.......over 1/2 of the board can't spell at all.

I tend to disagree. Most of the jacked people I've met ARE successful professionals.

Because you have to be pretty rich, or at least comfortable, to be able to have the time commitment to get very muscular. Not to mention supplements.
