I was thinking what do we have now that we do not know about? The F117 was out in 1988 officially. That was 14-15 years ago. We have to have some serious shit now.

I heard they don't plan on extensive use of the F-117 this time. Other than being stealthy, I doubt it is a great bomber.

Nah its a fighter. I was just trying to say if we had those 15 years ago there is no telling what we have. I read some scram jet shit but I dont remember. B2 is pretty badass.

But only fighter pilots were allowed to fly the F-117. Just starting to flow all types of pilots into it now.

What about that scram jet? Doesnt it use the atmosphere as fuel?

Popular Mechanics is a good place to read about new military technology. Bombers tend to have a long service life. Shoot our main bomber is the B-52 and it was designed well over 50 years ago.

Code named Senior Trend and known as the Hopeless Diamond, the F-117 Stealth Fighter was designed in the late seventies. So stealthy, aircrews sometimes find dead bats whose own sonar is so confused by the signal return from the F-117 that they crash into parked craft. The hero of the Gulf war, the Stealth Fighter is still tasked to take out the toughest targets and is only now becoming vulnerable to enemy radar.

How come everything i read calls the 117 a fighter?

THE F117 BOMBED ARTILLERY EARLIER TODAY. ITS A GOOD PLANE. THEY WERE FEATURING IT ON A PEICE ON MSNBC SAYING HOW GOOD IT WAS EARLIER. I FELL ASLEEP THOUGH.

f-117 is a bomber that is its primary design... on new tech side i heard of a plane a few years back that we have called the F-22 stealth fighter capable of locking on to 4 targets at once and taking the enemy out before they apear on radar. that was on Discovery channel i belive.

I would classify the f-117 as an Attack platform..
F/A 117a is the official designation..

The first F-22s were just delivered to the Air force for training
and officially go active very shortly, 2004 I think

F22 Radar stuff...

F22 B2 Stealth stuff....
.
It has been very interesting question that why does the F-22 or B-2 cost so damn much when other aircraft embodying similar equipments are behind by a staggering margin.

Obviously the question as of yet isn't answered, but yes, certain hints are available.

Fiber Radio Optical ARCS (Active Radar Cancellation System)

This is one suggested answer. I'm sorry no extensive details as of yet, but I will try and tip you off on this.

As is well evident, the Raptor sacrifices very less aerodynamics to Stealth. Though what is suggested, that apart from the Passive stealth features similar to that the F-117A possessed, this aircraft also uses an ARCS, similar in output to the Russian Plasma Stealth, but more advanced, reliable and costly.

FRO-ARCS

When the microwaves from other radars fall on to the RAM coated surfaces of the Raptor, they are absorbed by the RAM. On being absorbed, they are channeled through the fiber optic cables and dissipated throughout the body of the aircraft and dispersed in form of heat. This provides extensive low observability. One disadvantage of the system maybe the cost involved in research and production as compared to the Russian Plasma Stealth system.

Nellis AFB (home of Red Flag) will have the first squadron of F/A-22. They picked up the "A" designation because the will have the ability to carry the small smart bomb that is under development right now. The SSB is a 250lb or less variant of the JDAM. Bombers will be able to carry a shitload of these bombs.

Shitload is to be considered a technical term meaning "a whole lot of".

YOU MUST BE LISTENING TO A DIFFERENT NEWS CHANNEL AND READING DIFFERENT SHIT THAN ME CUZ ALL I KEEP HEARING IS HOW GOOD THIS PLANE IS.

THE FIRST BOMB, A 2KLB BUNKER BUSTER WAS DROPPED BY A F117 AND THEY ALSO BOMBED ARTILLERY SPOTS EARLY YESTERDAY.

We don't have the millitary budget we used to. Without Cold War funding, which Clinton pretty much cut by two thirds, the research funding simply isn't there. I really doubt we have any new plane designs.

BUSH STRENGTHENED THE MILITARY AFTER HE TOOK OFFICE. CLINTON WAS AN IDIOT FOR CUTTING THE MILITARY SO MUCH.
