STD Question (Herpes)

I recently met a girl I like. Haven't got intimate yet and she had the decency and courage to tell me she's had herpes for 4 years. She had some sort of year long therapy treatments 2 years ago and says that they haven't returned yet. Would appreciate any advice / info / non-flames from anyone with experience in this area.

Thanks in advance for not being a shit head about this.

She didn't say that she was cured, she said she had "supressive therapy treatments" Anyone else know about this?????

first, props 2 ur girl for being straight, most people arent
2nd, we all probably have at least one of the herpes family viruses living in a latent state in our bodies right now. Fever blisters, chickenpox, and mono are all variations of the herpes virus. I'm assuming u mean that she has HSV-2 which is a sexually transmitted disease. She is probably being treated with Acyclovir, foscarnet, or famciclovir. THese drugs are an analog of guanosine or deoxyguanosine. Acyclovir essentially halts viral DNA synthesis during an outbreak. This drug does not prevent or terminate latency, so infection can reemerge when treatment is stopped. Herpes is sexually transmitted during a flare up. Personnally i don't think i would have sex with someone with genital herpes but that decision is based on personal preference more then medical necessity.

Herpes......hmmm

I would think about what you are about to commit to. Although it's like one in three people have it or more, I would still take precautions. People make a big deal out of herpes. When I got it all that was said was " oh you got a cold sore" nothing else. It is such a common disease it's not really even worth talking about. It was a bit traumatic when I got it as I just started dating a girl who had never had any sexual relations and is as pure as pure is. Herpes can be controlled through exercise, diet and education. My girlfriend decided "well I am marrying you so I am bound to get it sometime". I think if this is a woman you love then nothing should get in your way!!. Just make sure you THINK about what your doing before you do it that's all . :D

its a risk that you're going to have to take, if the herpes is inactive then thats good, but chances are it will come back in the future

straight up

she's cool to have been straight up with you like that - many people prob. wouldnt.

Once you get herpes, the virus is in your system forever. (same as cold sores) and you can have flare ups now and again.

Do some research on this stuff though so that you don't get baised by myths etcs. Read up on the facts. Avoid 'activities' around the times of flare-ups and practise safe sex at all other times and you should be okay.

I think something like 3/5 people in US have it. It is something you can learn to live with.

I know it seems like I may be picking on you sometimes kid but please let the adults talk. You do not need to just say something that someone else said earlier in the post to participate. If you dont know just read and learn please. Shouldnt there be an age limit on this portion of the site or something.

Do your parents know you read this site.
