Ill keep it short and sweet.

@ the age of 45 a good freind of my father passed away from a heart attack yesterday.

He used AAS frequently throughout his life (80's and on) probably in a uneducated care free manner mind you.

He has 3 boys all in elementary school and the hottest wife youve ever seen.

Apparently he did lead a pretty wild life in his early years with regards to alchy and rec drugs but are you guys just remember to keep things in moderation and dont inhibit your health for vanity purposes too much.

It sad and frustrating because alot of people arent giving him the respect they should due to the tainted fact he was a known user of AAS and is considered irrespeonsible.

it is silly that a person can drink him self to death or smoke untill their lungs get filled with cancer and everyone cries that it was not right and he should not have died...as soon a steroids gets mentioned its the " well he did it to himself" mentality.

People dont want to admit smoking and rinking are just as bad becuase they are legal and many people do it.....but quick to blame something illegal like rec drugs or steroids for ones passing becuase it allows them to continue drinking and smoking even though its just as bad...

no one desrves to die at age 45
R.I.P

By the way I know 2 men that have had heart attacts before they were 40 with no history of gear use, the reason I bring it up is noone said " he shoul'nt have drank so much coffee in the morning  Or he should've ate better  :Chef: But I'd be wiiling to bet that if they had taken any GEAR in any point in there life, the GEAR would be to blame :p

I'm sorry to hear that this friend of yours died... though I wouldn't blame it on the AAS usage. There are many other factors that could have contributed for this outcome.

Agreed, I know people who tell me I'm killing myself, while they puff away on their multiple packs a day.

I am very sorry. And from experience I will say that my uncle died of lung cancer at 48. It was very sad and my family and his friends were devastated. My family friend who I considered an aunt also died october of 05 of lung cancer at 55. I miss them like crazy but I have to admit something. They are missed and people feel pity. If I were to die tomorrow of a heart attack it would all be blamed on steroids. I just wonder my friend how much rec drugs are we talking this guy did? A lot of cocaine? I just wonder, the doctors thought my uncles use of cocaine and drinking helped contribute to his lung cancer, and he had heart problems as well.

Also do you know if it was an enlarged heart? I have one from playing sports as a youngen and the doctor considers it a healthy enlarged heart. But that still scares me. I am very sorry. May your friend RIP. I pray for his sons and family. Steroid use does not taint a man's worth in this world. I'm sure he was a great guy and I hope people start to realize we are not heroin addicts here. sheesh. tough thread. take care

Sorry about the lost of your friend, 45 is too young, the family must be in shock.

However I am strong believer that there is no relationship or even a correlation between the use of gear and heart, liver, or kidney problems. This is simply based upon all the clinical and non-human studies done in the past 40 years.

Update ... it was triggered via an infection he contracted while @ the dentist a week earlier. It went directly to his heart and upon emergency surgery they coukdnt control the bleeding.

That's so sad to read. I don't want to imagine how his family feel...sometimes stupid things like that happen; and you just think why? one of my friend's brother died like that at 28, some years ago. He had a minor surgery, contracted a deadly bacteria at the hospital, that night, while recovering from surgery he had three heart attacks. After docs revived him from the first, then came the second and the third. After that, it was criminal to keep trying. But again, Why?

that is really tragic ... its becoming more common for dentists to prescribe an antibiotic as a preventative prior to procedures ... for this very reason

My 52 yr old ex-boss also passed of a heart attack last week while bycycling which he did alot of. No gear use, decent shape and fairly clean lifestyle. Genetics play such a crucial role in this type of thing. Sorry for your friends loss bro.

I"m a recovering heroin addict, did it from age 19 off and on to age 30. Don't look down at people with a problem they can't control. It took me many , many tries to finally get clean and sober, but that doesn't make me any less of a human being bro.

Bruce, I know what you mean about being scared of an enlarged heart. I for one do not have one, however, my uncle died at the age of 28 from one. Played a game of football in the winter with some old friends one day and just dropped dead on the sidewalk a block from his house. A neighbour saw him fall but it was already too late. It's nuts that a man can just croak like that out of nowhere.

So there is a family history and it gets me worried from time to time. For now, doc says I'm safe and I hope I am.

Stay healthy.

I disagree with all this talk of non-control when it comes to addiction.IMO addicts just don't want their addiction to be controlled.

However, the reason I believe this is because of the path towards healing. YOU beat the addiction yourself, right Ironclaw? I understand you probably had a good support group, people helping you along - but just as you made the choice to start, it was YOU alone that made the choice to get help and get clean, right?

I do agree that you and everyone else recovering or recovered aren't any less of a human being. On the contrary, it takes a truckload of guts to make that step and even more to continue past.

However, I feel NO sympathy whatsoever to those that allow themselves to be took over by addiction especially if they have people willing to support them through the crisis. Maybe I'm just a conservative elitist asshole for saying this shit (my girlfriend would certainly say so!) but from personal experience I believe it is a more appropriate way of thinking than the "carebear" approach of absolving the responsibility people have for their actions.

Nobody puts a gun to a persons head and forces them to shoot/snort/smoke. Everyone makes that decision for themselves.
