Stats needed to win a local competition?

Hey fellas,

I am hoping to eventually compete but, I'm afraid of getting on stage & no looking like I should be there. I am told by many that I could get up there & have a good chance of doing well. Hell I keep putting off taking pictures because I don't think I'm big enough. Although, I've seen some of the guys who have competed in the super & they didn't look all that impressive at all. What would be a solid weight/BF % for me to do it & not look like shit? My current stats are 6'5" 256lbs aprox 10% BF I think if I was to cut, I would not be much higher than the cuttoff for super. If I remember correctly it starts at something like 225 1/4lbs I'm hoping to go for it next spring, depending on how my next cycle comes out, I want to be around 270-275 @10-12% before cutting. Thanx for the input. Supertech

I will try to post a pic (with the help of someone) when I get home.

My measurements are: (these are all cold & current)

chest: 52"
quads: 31"
waist: 38"
Biceps: 18"
forearms: 14 1/2"
calfs: 17"

any other measurements?

It really has nothing to do with a certain set weight. Bodybuilding is all about an illusion. It also depends on your body type. If you have a small waist, and joints, you will always look bigger than you really are, etc. But I couldn't imagine someone who is 6'5, 250 before cutting doing too well. Us tall guys have it rough! I was thinking about it, to look anything at all muscular at a height of 6' or above, you would have to come in at a weight that would put you in super heavy. I mean, 6'3 and 190 ripped would look like shit. I sometimes think it would have been cool in the 70s, being 6'2 240 cut back then was pro material, now a guy with that height would have to be close to 300!

I'm certainly not thinking pro or top level by any means, I am thinking local comps. I have pretty small joints & I can get my waist near 34" or less with no problem. Guess I'll just have to find a pic to post. I have a scanner but, no digi cam.

It also depends on the state youre in. In Texas at 6'5" I'd think you'd need to be able to compete in a local show at 240 or above. 270 A 10% in the off season sounds like a good starting point. At your current weight and bf % you might end up coming in as a Heavy and that's not a good weight class for your height.

I'm with ya on that, I wouldn't even attempt to step on stage at my current weight. I would like to be 250+ at around 4-5% for the contest.

Don't you find it sad that us taller guys need to come in at such heavy weights just to do well, and probably not even win? In the 60s, at your height and weight, you would have been a pro. I am in the same situation as you currently. I am 6'3, 250 11%. I have small joints, and waist, which helps, but only to a point. I am so paranoid that I wouldn't step on stage until I was at least 275 in contest shape. Still, I wouldn't want to be shorter, because once the mass is on a taller guy, it does look better. Less blocky, and more aesthetic. I wouldn't worry too much bro, your stats are great as is. I bet you never thought you would be 250 at your height (I never thought i would be!), if you accomplished this goal, you will accomplish the rest of them.

ps. That guy in the pic is impressive, but not USA impressive, if he got to that level, then I'm sure you would do well at a local indeed!

it is

insane nowadays. Guys that are bigger than arnold are afraid to step on stage. Arnold competed at what 240 at 6'2" and not even near the cut condition of today(3,4,5% BF), when I saw pictures of him competing he looked closer to 7%, so if he had to get in shape for todays shows he would have been at 6'2" 225-230 on stage. On stage today he would have been lucky to make it out of a regional show, and thats a shame cause I still think he had the best physique.

I really do think at your size right now you could do well in local shows, its when you hit the national scene that you will have to become something out of a monster book.
