squats and suggestions

I squat twice a week. I would say my legs are relatively strong. I 1rm 450. Yesterday I was in the gym and I did not make it to there with 4 warm -up sets, just like 135, 225, 315, 385. I was only giving like 2-2.5 minutes rest between sets. I usually sqaut following a soviet routine with long rest periods between sets. I am worried about my squat strength because I am coming up on my track season in January and I want to be around 500 lb squat. I am worried because I am dieting, and people tell me that I will lose strength, but I did not think it would be much. Does anyone have any advice for me about resting periods between sets for squats? Should I still take like 4-5 minutes between sets for what I am used to? I mean do you think my rest being cut in half would mess with my total workout??

If 405 is your 5th set, then I see no reason to wait five on the first sets. The first two or three, you can go as you see fit. I always rest 5 between heavy sets though. I'd stick with that(never knew it had a technical name--soviet style wooooo) style brother.

Thanks, Atomic Punk, I didnt really think about waiting yesterday, but I need suggestions so thanks alot. Hopefully get others insight as well.

I would not worry about the rests, as punk says, until you start getting heavier. Also, try to keep the protein intake around the 1.5 - 2 grams per lb. This way you can still loose some weight with minimal effects to the muscle mass. Diet is always key bro. I'm sure you know that.

Thanks Gigantasor, yeah I am upping the protein alot this week, cause I finally looked at what foods have the most protein and calories so I can make the most of it all. Yeah the rests I was just getting excited to do legs so I was jumping on my sets.
